I have a Blazer that I use as a farm vehicle for fencing , cow checking and anything else you would use a utility vehicle for . It has started to die when it gets hot and wont start till it cools down . Ya can pour gas in the carb and it will still not start so I figger it is electrical . In a older style eng. the coil would be my first guess but this eng. has all sorts of do-dads on it and nothing that looks like what I would call a coil . This is a 4.3 but NOT a Vortec . Can anyone give me some help ?
 
If it has a huge distributor cap, the coil sits in the middle of the cap. You were looking for a conventional type coil and probably overlooked it.
 
What year is it? It sounds lke it is the electronic ignition. If it is the one with the module in the distributor cap, it's easy to replace. If it is newer than that, you'll have to wait for one of the others to respond. I stopped messing with them after they went to the "Real Hi-Tech" ignitions...
 
Is this a full size K5 Blazer, or a mini S10 Blazer? Your coil is probably mounted on the top of the distributor cap if it's an older model.
I've had several burn the rotor right off. Seems a simple physical is check is what you ought to do first. Pull the coil cap and rotor off and see what they look like. The coils have very high energy potential, so when moving parts get worn - e.g. the cap and rotor, the coil will increase voltage until they burn out.

I've got a 79 full-size Blazer with a 305 that crapped out recenty. It died when it burnt the rotor completely off. Easy fix.

I've got three other Blazers here, but they are all diesel. No spark ignition to worry about.
 
Is there a relay for the fuel pump? I have a 94 Ford ranger that wouldn't start hot but kept running if it was started. I had to wait 20 minutes one time for it cool off before it would start. It was a $5 fuel pump relay. Dave
