Rough couple of days

My 1850 was still setting in Geneseo , had it there at the fall show. I got the water pump replaced Tuesday afternoon, and talked with a neighbor about hauling it home. He wanted to do it Saturday AM, but called me when I got off work Friday and said he had time if I wanted to get it now. I said sure. He picked me up and we drove up and loaded it. I climbed onto the hood to tape the exhaust shut and decided that the flags on the grill wouldn't make it home so I pulled the first one out and the 2nd one was difficult. I stepped down on top the front axle to get a better pull on it and lost my footing and fell backwards off the tractor on the trailer and landed on the ground flat on my back. Took a while to get up, sore as HECK, but OK. LONG ride home, hard to climb up and untape the stack and drive it off the trailer, but got it done. Came in and took a shower and tried to eat, but started getting sick, so I just went to bed. Got up aboput 6 this am, stiff and sore but moving. Slow getting out of the house to do anything but finally go going. Got the combine ready to start on corn, wife came out and said our daughter and grandsons were coming down. I said I would start on the end rows and eat when they got here. First pass along the ends, outside snout is running in weeds and heavy grass, ran into a mound of dirt and rolled the snout back under the corn head. Went to the house, kids are here, so we ate and then I went out with 4 year old grandson to figure out what to do with it. Decided to try the old 44 corn head, dropped the 1144 off the 750 and hooked up the 44, Bearing is out on the main drive shaft. Looked at the other 44, It ain't gonna run either. Ended up taking the snout off the 44 and putting it on the 1144. Had to be creative to make it work, but it did. Finally started again about 4pm. 4 year old was riding in the cab with me. Went in to unload and the 1 year old was having a fit, wanted to go too. So I loaded them both behind the seat and took off. 1 year old LOVED it!! He just sat there and watched everything and pointed and jabbered all the time. Filled 2 more wagons and he cried when they had to leave. Kinda made the day worth it, but I'm still STIFF and SORE!!! At least it was only a couple of days, and the grandkids loved it. That soreness ain't gonna leave as soon as it used to, but thats the price we pay. Been battling arthritis in my left shoulder for a while now, I know.

Maybe you should read the post about part time farming I just did up on Kountry life, it might cheer you up.

sounds to me your a lucky guy to take a fall like that and not break anything.here i thought i was the only one who did stuff like that glad your okay.

Chris, you are very lucky with regards to the fall. I had a fall from ground level, was walking under a tree that the summer before had a bee's nest in it and a bird startled out of it. That took me by surprise and I took off, made it about 20 feet from the tree and lost my balance, was bent over at the waist due to low hanging branches. Took me about 10 minutes to be able to get off the ground. 2 days later went to the hospital and after x-rays found out I had 2 busted ribs in the back. Needless to say I was hurting for a few weeks till they healed up.

I'll say it again, you were lucky.
