JD Hydrostat fluid

Was wonderin if the JD Hydrostat fluid for 6620 combine could be substituted by something else that could be bought from retailer open on Sunday. This is my 1st hydrostatic equipment so am not familiar yet.

The manual specifies you can use ATF TYPE F (not Dextron or any of its successors). I have used the ATF TYPE F in a pinch and try to keep the JD Hy Gard low viscosity on hand. If I get a chance I will wander over to the other place and look up the Ford spec number for ATF TYPE F. Even that is getting hard to find at Wally World and other mass retailers.

Hydrostatic systems are expensive to fix. Myself I would not mix oils especially ATF. My advice wait and get a pail of Low Viscosity Hy-Gard from your Deere dealer.

On page 35 of the 6620 combine manual Ford M2C33F is named as an alternative to Hy Gard low viscosity if not available. Ford M2C33F is commonly referenced as ATF type F in your automotive supply and discount stores.
I am one to normally stick with OEM service products but the ATF type would allow ES Farmer to get something done on a Sunday without fearing damage to the drive. He can stock up on Deere Hy Gard low viscosity during the week as I normally do.

Thanks to all that had info. Took a 10 min. drive to wally world this mornin got some type F fluid and filled reservoir. Hour later started rainin, oh well.
