John Deere AR

I have a 1935 AR .. I am getting water in oil even from just sitting. Where would be a good place to start to look ? Can I hope it is just a warped head or bad head gasket. It does run good. Thanks for the help.

Randall;
Chances are on a tractor that old, the cooling tubes are failing, which necessitates pulling the head to repair.
Good Luck, and we do hope it"s somthing minor, but it sure sounds like that is the problem to me.

When antifreeze started coming out of the petcock on the BR, I was worried that it could be worse, fortunately a new headgasket was the cure, benefits being a complete flush of the cooling system, an inspection of the cylinders,valves and head and quite a simple repair that headgasket.

This was in the late 50's on a 38 A. The water tubes in the head rusted out and there was a slight crack in the head. Tubes not quite as long as thickness of head and where the crack was the tube stoped. Put in the new tubes and moved them to the other side where the old ones were not and it lasted as long as Dad had the tractor. Bought in spring of 57 and traded in summer of 60 for a 49 B with starter that I could start and pulled same implements at same speeds as the A. Still wish I had both.

Thanks for all the help. I did not know there are tubes in the head. My dad bought this ar for me when I was little, all I remember was it was in a fence row and we took the head off right there and soaked rags with wd40 and stuffed in the cylinders and let set for a few weeks to see if cylinders would free up and we freed the valves in the head and put it back together and the hauled it home, dad is gone now and that was 35 years ago.

Ok .. water tubes, but I don't see them in the parts list for the head ? Are they called something else, or are they not a seperate part? Thanks for your help.
