probably thinking of a classic tractor show where there was featured a restored G but that G was high crop model, its owner made the statement to the efect that high crop G's were rare due to the fact that they had a very hard life and most simply didnt survive the riggors of time and conditions of operation

I just looked at mt JD book publeashed be Deere and they do not list a G,W they do list a G,,,,GM,,,GP,,,GP,wide tread,,and a GP.O,,,,,,
The GP wide tread was made from 1929 to 1933 and apears to be 5110 tractors made....Soooooooooo Ifen i had a seral # that could help...

As already stated it's not RARE just a styled GW that has a wide frt axle that to be correct the SN must be G26000- which would make it a 1947-1953 model.

BTW a GW is listed in JD parts cat # 369 on JD parts.com

The ad refers to comments in 2-cyl Sept-Oct 2010 issue page 45. The GW in the ad is obviously a "battery box" seat G, which puts the s/n above 26000 built after July 30, 1947. From then until end of G production (1953) there were over 4600 GW's with battery box seat built. (ref 2-Cyl Mar-Apr 2000 p20) What is rare is a GW (or GN) between s/n 23000-25671 with the pan seat (left over from the GM). That s/n range is referred to as "Early Styled G". The first Early GW was s/n 24377 built May 15, 1947. There were only 107 pan seat GW's built, so those are rare. Watch out for clones! The s/n list of those 107 GW's is in the Mar-Apr 2000 2-Cyl p20.
