My daughter's horse has a cracked back tooth, which the vet says is infected. Tomorrow the horse is going to be opeated on. They vet goes in through the outside of the cheek to remove the tooth. Anyone ever seen this done? I could buy a fairly good tractor for what this is going to cost, but it needs to be done, I'm sure the horse is in pain. The horse is put comletely under for quite a while. Stan

See what happens when you don't brush and floss??????

How old is the horse? If it's less than or not much over 3, I'd get a second opinion. I can imagine the price is pretty high . Vets are doctors too and have to keep up with their people fixing counterparts.

Hope everything works out.

We have a horse Dentist that comes once a year to give our 5 horses a check up. Our old (34) appaloosa benefits the most, he has had 2 of his front teeth pulled.

Guy goes into the dentist with a bad tooth. Doc takes a look and says its infected and needs to come out. I'll just give you a shot to numb it. No way, Doc,I hate shots. Then I will give you some gas. Not that either, hate how the gas affects me. Then would you take a pill? Sure and now that I took it, what was the pill. Doc says Viagra-----VIAGRA? I didn't know it was a pain pill. Doc says it isn't , but it will give you something to hold onto when I pull your tooth.

Have horses and never heard of such a thing. Our Horse dentist will pull teeth just like people dentist, but with bigger tools.
I would get second opion myself.

There's a horse dentist around here, and he has a very specialized trailer with stand-up "dentist chair", lots of special tools, etc.- far as I know, he does everything from the mouth. I'd get another opinion. And yes, it will be spendy, no matter who does it.
