Tough old farmer survives...

An 82 year old farmer who lives alone cheated death after being trapped upside down in a combine for 21 hours! It happened just outside of Edmonton. He was going to get his MF 760 combine ready and wanted to get new filters for it. He didn't remember the numbers so climbed up and stuck his head down to get the numbers off the filters. Unfortunately, he kept sliding down into the engine compartment and couldn't get out. His head was in between 2 fan blades. He wasn't dressed for the -8C overnight temperature but figures he went into shock. He'll be in the hospital for about a month suffering from dehydration and hypothermia(sp)and his neighbors will harvest his crop. His son in law found him in the morning and called for help. They had to use the jaws of life to free him and then took him in the air ambulance. He will be retiring from farming and says there should always be two people around just in case. Good advice if you ask me. A good news story for a change. Dave

An 81 year old farmer just got killed here in northern michigan 2 sundays ago. Had his baler plugged and was reaching in to clear it out and it sucked him in. Dont know if it was running or what or if it was a round baler or square baler. Bad news either way.

It's good that He made it so far, and Pray for a speedy recovery for him, But he is not out of the woods yet. At that age, any little injury from this can lead to serious complications later on. Very important that they monitor him for some time to come. A 67 yr old neighbor got a small cut that lead to an infection, they cured the infection at the site, but he died a few weeks later from a secondary infection to the heart

I second what Geezer said- just lost a friend of the family, in early 80's, from complications from what started as an infected hangnail on his toe. Old bodies just can't fight off things as well, and little things can lead to a fast slide down hill. Hope this turns out well.
