Why rural living is great.

A young Fisher MN farmer with wife and 3 young kids lost his battle with cancer recently. He had 600 acres of sugar beets he planted himself. Yesterday 125 triaxle and semi trucks, 25 lifters and 12 defoliaters showed up to harvest his crop. The refinery opened up only for his beets, the state shut off one lane of highway for only beet trucks and local businesses, wives and others kept the crew fed. They harvested 1.3 acres per minute of 28+ ton beets. One of his friends said lets do it and the farmers and other rural people started calling volunteering never wanting or expecting compensation. This is why I love living in rural America.

I always like hearing those stories- quite common in wheat country, but lots more logistics involved when you're trying to move 17,000 tons of product in a day. Thanks for the post.

It's good to know that there are still rural areas where the nieghbors don't see each other as competition. That is getting rarer and rarer.

It's nice to hear. Around here most of the farmers are related to each other in some fashion, so they do a lot of stuff together.

Now thats a great bunch of CHRISTIAN AMERICANS if you ask me. What a beautifull post. Bless the family's who helped out and my prayers goes out to the mans family. God does PROVIDE.

A few years ago, my uncle was killed in a grain bin accident. The fire dept cut huge holes in the side of the bin in an attempt to get him out quickly. It was a large bin and still fairly full when it happened.

When my aunt and cousins returned home, after making arrangements, about 5 or 6 hours later, there wasn't a soybean in site. The loose pieces of grain bin had been picked up and stacked behind the barn. The yard looked like it had been swept clean.

Even his semi he was loading into had been taken to town and unloaded, then parked in it's regular spot.

Not a single neighbor took credit or mentioned anyone involved. When my aunt and cousins asked at the elevator, they were only told the beans were delivered.

There was an awful lot of work done in a short amount of time at the drop of a hat. Still puts a lump in my throat when I think about it.

Nice to know there are still good neighbors out there in other parts of the country and not just around here.

Thanks for the story.

Great stories guys.
Brother-in-law of a friend was a farmer. He had cancer and was failing fast but planned on doing the harvesting himself along with help from some family members. He called my friend and asked him to help with the harvest. My friend said no problem. When he showed up to help he brought several friends and neighbors with their combines and trucks. They even furnished their own fuel.
That took allot of stress off the family during a tough time.

This is what made The USA so great many years ago, neighbors helping each other, I think if we would ALL get back this way, The Great USA would get back to it's roots. What was shown here was Compassion which in turn makes your HEART AND MIND feel GOOD..THANK GOD THERE ARE PEOPLE STILL AROUND LIKE THEM...
MAY GOD BLESS THE USA

Thanks for sharing 720.

When I was a kid back on the farm, one of our neighbors ran into health complications during harvest time. So, my dad and I spent several days finishing up for him even though we had a week or two to finish our own. And as luck would have it, it started to rain and wouldn't stop. It was a mess trying to get that crop in. Anyway, after all this hassle I asked my Dad why he didn't finish with ours before moving over to our neighbors because after all we really needed the money to keep going and how much hardship we would have to endure if we didn't get it in, etc. And his response I'll never forget. He said "it was the right thing to do". End of discussion and lesson learned.
