Just a couple pics from the staging area and then on bridge yesterday. Over 800 tractors. Others will probably have more pics of show area and more of parade. Had to do it once.

I believe the bridge is in Michigan, but I am not sure. The logs look like pulp wood to me, and that is probably a handier way to haul it.

I do not know where the picture is taken, but that wood is what we call pulp wood or paper wood down in Mississippi. I is usually cut in 6' to 8' lengths to be hauled.

Yes, that"s pulp wood used to make neneer & paper . When I was a young lad in the 50s, my Dad & another guy cut pulp wood during the winter months . I drug the logs out to the field & cut them into 8" chunks & stacked them with Dads tractor for the truck to pick up . It was a fun job even tho mitey cold . God bless, Ken

Up here in NW Wisc,Thats the way we get our fire wood delivered. 20 cord .PUP trailers are used here but some not required. Delivered in 2 truck loads. Most pulp wood is sent to LP in Hayward for waferboard(Strand Board to some),Hard wood is delivered to Birchwood lumber and Veneer Door mfgs. Pulp wood(soft wood) is de-barked and milled for PLUGS in veneer sheets for hollow cored doors.

Trucks like that are "Michigan centipedes" - lotsa axles and tires, because of MI's axle weigth laws. You won't see trailers quite like that in WI anymore... too many deaths from logs falling off and hitting cars. (happeded to a friend from church) All have steel cages on either end of the trailer now, but the basic idea is the same.

punch in "Macinac Bridge" in your search and get a ton of info on it. 5 mi. long. I believe the suspended part in longer than the Golden Gate. Just one of our (Michigans) better kept secrets. That is pulp and that truck is only 2/3 full. There are a lot of "wood chip" haulers here also. Enclosed type 50-55' with air vents in top and tires the full length. Things are done a little different in the North , whether Mi or other northern states.

Looks like a small load of pulp on that truck. A "michigan double" will haul 20~21 cords of pulp on it if stacked right; thats if it is a self loader add a few more cord if no self loader. Even our saw log 8'ers are hauled width wise like that on the trucks. Then they move the stakes around to haul random length logs (10',12',14') length wise on the truck (although there are a few brave souls around here that truck 10' and 12' logs width wise into the sawmill I work at).

Probably didn't hit 65 til mid afternoon and that wind up on the bridge can really cool ya down if ya aint dressed for it. Stage area to finish is probably close to 2 hrs. Wouldn't have it any other way , hate it when it's hot up north , give me 60,s year round and I'll wear a sweatshirt and love it. Us old guys don't take the extreme heat (or cold teens) too good anymore. You can keep that heat down there.

we take the whole tree for pulp , laying it length-wise on the truck but only singles no double trailers.
