Just a few pics from the farm while we harvest.

DSCN3811.jpg

A few curious calves watch corn harvest this morning as I take pictures from on top of a grain bin.

From my vantage point on the bin roof, even on a cloudy day, it is quite a view west out of Peoria county across the prarie towards Fariview.

This house was built by my great great grandfather in 1929. I remember as a young boy spending warm summer evenings with my great grandparents on this front porch as they visited with neighbors that would stop in and "sit for a spell".

The entire year culminates right here as all of our work goes up the auger and into the bin.

Just a picture from a recent evening. More and more combines are rolling everyday now. Harvest is moving along quickly for us with the nice weather we have been lucky enough to recieve. On the 16th of September we are allready thinking of completing corn harvest. What a difference a year makes!

Wrigley is rarely not at my side, even when on the bins. He isnt happy if we arent together. Guess that works both ways!
Hope everyone else is getting along well.

Great pics billonthefarm !! Thx for sharing. Wriggly looks happy, Guess he knows Christmas is coming.

Hey Bill, I to have a IH 2366 Combine. I was wondering how fast you go in 180-200 bu corn? Seems I cant go more than 3 mph. My machine is in great condition, only 1300 sep hrs. Any help would be appreciated. I need some help also calibrating the yeild moniter. Thanks

Great pics Bill. Thanks. I've been by Effingham, Illinois and was impressed by the size of the fields there. I was on the interstate, I think it was 55/70 and the fields just went on and on and on. I know it's not by Peoria but it reminded me of them. Gerard

What happens if you go over 3mph? Corn out the back? Loss of power?

What yield monitor do you have?

Hi mike.
First of all I rarely run the combine myself but I think I can help you out.
It varies of course but I cant think of any situation where we run only 3mph. Alot of the time our limiting factor is hauling grain not the combine. When the corn is standing good seems like 5mph is a good speed. Yesterday we were picking corn that was 18-19 percent and at 5mph the engine was running 2390rpms and the grain sample was perfect. You probably need to talk to someone, as there is a good chance you can pick up some productivity. What is your limiting factor? Horespower or cleaning?
As far as the yield monitor, I get a young guy from our local fertilizer plant who does all of their gps stuff to come help us with problems on the it. I have them bring the weigh wagon and the tech guy to calibrate. Case dealer support here is woefully inadequate so I use this guy and he is great, very helpfull and knowledgeable.
If I can help, holler back.

That is neat to see

It still makes me wonder why you guys can go earlier than we can here in western Iowa (I am about 50 miles east of Sioux City)

Only one field here has been taken out that I have seen. 10 guys have dipped in and went back to the shed, too wet.

I have some 111 day corn that was planted april 14 that is still a couple weeks out before I can think of it. The 100 or 102 day corn around here is in the low 20's

I am not lacking in HP. I do have hills around my area but not bad. It seems if I go faster than 3 mph or so it starts throwing corn out the back.

Corn out the back. I know that it doesnt help if the machine is on a hillside. They like it better on the flat.

Great photos as usual; really like the photo of your great grandparents home.

Be sure to pat Wrigley on the head for me and tell him he's a good dog.

Thanks again for sharing your photos with us.

Corn harvest, for the most part, is done here in Sou.In.No rain for a month so corn dried out quickly.

same here in southeast ill and across river in ky yields off some do to hot dry weather very little drying this year. I filled ours made sure it would run, it"s a ferrell ross 5000/bph antique but it;s empty right now.

Do the smooth ones look like thick wire or small rod?? Sorry for the other name that pops up, sometimes I have to use mike321 to get it to post a message.

Great pics. Reminds me of when I used to work with my dad at harvest time. He's gone now, but at least I have the memories.
Great to see Wrigley again. Sam says hi too.

Any different from last year's conditions? LOL

Went to Springfield this week and saw 1 field of beans cut - still a lotta "green beans". Lot of corn out in the last week and a half - guess you started the harvest!
