Wow! That is really wild. The fact that you can see it through sattelite imagery and not be in a lead room under a mountain is a real sign of the times.

I am trying to recall the conversation we had. Gonna read back...

The runway is in great shape. It looks like alot of the buildings were taken down. Some of the painted lines used for aircraft marshalling are still visible. Thanks for the link, I have Google Earthed much of North Korea, but not Vietnam.

It's just you mentioned about being in the Air Force.

My Unit 226 S&S was ahead of Airmen coming into VN
When we got there we had Pallet floors inside tents
We were Army , but we had 3 Airmen assigned to our unit as overseers of their incoming supplies.

When Phu Hiep was fully under construction and was being used for small fixed wing aircraft from Cessna 160 and Australian Carabu ( funny looking hi winged planes that hardly needed an air strip)
Our unit went on to Tuy Hoa and a larger Airstrip was put in there.

I was in the 354th FS from 92-96. Big history geek. It is interesting that the NV decided to use the airstrips as airstrips instead of roads.

The big airstrip I believe in tuy hoa is now a big highway to tuy hoa the other was expanded after we left and now their military protection. looks like Russian plains there now
