Every time I do this I get lots of good information. Next week will have 8 to 10 days to spend in the area roughly from Flagstaf up to Grand Junction.. Other than the grand canyon and four corners, maybe the train at Durango what else is there that I should not miss. Always looking for old dozers, and eqipment.. or senery.Let me know where I need to go and stay..Thanks in advance .

Go to the north of flagstaff city limits and take Poudre Canyon road up into the hills to LaPorte,CO
Fine drive and off the path of common tourism. Jim

brice canyon, Zion, Monument Valley. Arches National Park. If you like that sort of sceenry. If you get far enough northeast, there is a nice little museum at the base of Scotts Bluff neb. Farther east, nice museun at Holdridge and Harold Warp's Praire Museum at Minden. Have a safe and fun Trip!!!!

I'll second Bryce and Zion Canyons, Monument Valley and Arches. 4 corners is worth a stop, but really not much there from what I recall. I've yet to see the Grand Canyon from the top, but I've got about 300 pictures taken during the 17 days I spent rowing my raft through the bottom. I'm sure the view looking down is nice too. Canyon de Chelly in NE Az is worthy of a look see as well.
More to see in that part of the world than can be explored in 10 days, but you'll get a crash course.

We did This Run in 1993,, It was one of the many Hilites of being a REal DAD to my 4 children ... crater at winslow AZ , the painted desert , Petrified Forest , Vermillion Cliffs on the North Rim of grand canyon, Go on Up Monument valley Utah , and then to to Pages to see the Glen Canyon Dam and tour power plant , Come Down to 4 State corners and Or consider going to Mesa Verde ,Co . FROM 4 corners drive Backwoods roads and hi ROADS and Vallies to End up in Sante-FE ,NM,, Go To Howard Johnsons hotel ansd see the Mission Church and the LEGEND OF THE CIRCLE STAIRWAY .................

This summer we went to 8 National Parks out west in the motorhome and if youre at Grand Canyon its not all that far to run up to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks which ARE BEAUTIFUL plus red Rock Canyon on the way to Bryce Canyon. I wasnt that impressed with Four Corners but love Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods there in Southern Utah and NE Arizona where many old John Ford and John Wayne Westerns were filmed.

Id advise Bryce and Zion for sure over Four Corners.

In addition to the other places already mentioned: Walnut Canyon (just out of Flagstaff) and Montezuma Castle. I liked the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad better than Durango/Silverton; it's been a while since we were there, but it wasn't as crowded. Also enjoyed the mine tour at Bisbee.

My vote for Mesa Verde Natl Park. Lots of old Anasazi ruins. Very interesting if you are into ancient native culture. It's in extreme SW Colorado, extending a bit into NM. Two other places near the north rim of Grand Canyon are "the wave" and Buckskin Gulch, if you like hiking and like unusual rock formations.

Grand Teton National Park.

Hands down the most beautiful spot on the planet. Especially so, this time of year.

Thankks to all you guys can,t realize how much help this is. Did the 10 days out of Phonix last year..and followed sugestions of those on here . Had a great trip. Looking foward to meeting several on here as we make the trip. Jerry

I used some photos of the "Wall Street" area as my PC background for several months after my trip to Arches. Love that red rock country. If you take the highway 128 from Boaz to Colorado that runs alongside the south side of the park, there's some spectacular scenery there, too.

(quoted from post at 07:48:39 09/14/10) Grand Teton National Park.

Hands down the most beautiful spot on the planet. Especially so, this time of year.

I've never seen it. If it can top the Cape Breton Highlands in Nova Scotia, then it must truly be something to see.

Went over Grand Mesa in 2000. Beautiful scenery if you have time to look. Wasn't the widest road in the country. Came out at Delta area. Wife's sister lives in Paonia.

You have some great country to look forward to. I have been fotunate to visit/spent time in every place mentioned below. If your are anchoring the travel between Grand Junction and Flagstaff then you will find that Lake Powell will decide which way you go -east or west. Each way is a great trip and will hit some of the things mentioned here. My choice would be north from Flagstaff to Mexican hat then on to Mesa Verde, Durango then north hitting all the sights on to DeltaReds place. If you end as far as Grand Junction then the big thing would be the loop from Fruita thru the Colorado Natl Monument ending up outside of Grand Junction. When I had the motorcycle in Fruita i made that loop both ways everyday. Hard to get tired of all the scenery in that part of Colorado. To add the farm link beware its open range and animals like to sleep on the warm road, blew past a couple cows at 110mph making a stupid run for GJT after a day on Lake Powell, never again. Have a great trip.

Take the Alpine Loop out of Silverton to Lake City. Take the tour or rent a Jeep. Incredible drive. I have a house outside of Durango and consider that drive to one of the best things around

I keep going back and reading all the post ..Yours really hits the nail.. right where I intend to go and do. Thanks again Jerry
