Wheat planting 2010....

Few pics of the wheat planting for this year. I have used the new Green Star guidance system a lot working for other farmers and because my equipment is so adanvced it can't be fitted with it. Actually I've had been forced to step back in guidance technology a few years. I really like the "Crooked Steer" technology. I didn't get the "Driver to the Marker" feature that Allen in NE uses. I have it with the optional drive to the "Drive to the corner of the window" option. By using this option I can get more seed in a given distance than if I used a straight row system. There for improving my yeilds, right?Seriously, I have a like of fun "driving" the tractors as straight as I can. Dan

nice job, much straighter than my rows. I do use disk drills rather than hoe drill like yours so it is harder to detect my poor farming skills. as long as there no skips...I dont really get too excited about it.

My driving looks like a had a jug of jack along. I like the theory of more seeds per linear foot.

Looks good. I have planted a lot of no till beans and winter wheat with a Great Plains drill and an IH 1066. First year not doing it anymore. Did not miss planting this spring but kind of missing harvest. Stay safe everyone!

Nice medium sized tractor/Case loader combo. I picked up this spring. Tractor runs like a top and fun to run. The only bad thing is the lower side of the T/A is shot. I'm just running it in high range until it quits. Have had some pretty good loads on it and the high side seems real strong yet. Have an 806 with an M&W turbo on it and the small Egging cab. Fun tractor to run too but, it is hard not to like the Year round cab on the 756. Dan

This part of the country people just disk the ground then broadcast the wheat seed and fertlize in one mix, roll it in and go.. Using the drill what seeding rate do you use? How many lb. or bushell to the acre? High as seed are this year probably will watch the rate a little closer.. jm. in Tennessee

here in Western Nebraska, right around 60# an acre for dry land. Usually if you get it anywhere around 55 to 65 an acre you be just fine. Right now it's a real good idea to bump up the rate on the first round or two on the field edges because grasshoppers are going to get more than their share of the new wheat. Dan
