Grain bin and fan

I am erecting a smaller bin, about 2000 bushel, got it cheap and it came with a new 12" fan. I can not find a drying floor for it, and was told for that size bin it doesnt need a drying floor. Ok, well what can I do? Are there tubes I can run across? The bin is being placed on cement, which has been curing for a couple months. I wanted to use this bin for corn this year. Would like to be able to fill it with corn this fall for spring delivery, and am hoping I can fill it with non heat dried corn and put my lower moisture corn in it what we combine. Please advise. Thank You in advance good folks.

Dave, you can put a floor in that bin just fine and it will be a whole lot easier to unload if you do. As long as you find a floor that is for a bin at least the size of yours you can always cut it down to fit. It isn't hard to do. Used floors are around if you look. Mike

while a floor would be best
you can rig up something using plastic pipe
get plastic perferated drainage pipe at least 16 inch diameter run straight across the bin to the other side
use 6" or 8" tile run off as latterals cap the ends
good luck

I have two 3250 govt. bins. One has no fan at all and the other just has a 12" bolted to the side and covered in the inside with perfferated cap. I dry corn down to 13.5% for bin with fan and have never taken a spoiled kernal out of that bin, somtimes leaving it in until following sept. On the other hand the bin without fan I dry corn down to 12% and always have 50 to 100 bushels spoiled corn when I unload. No matter if you level on top or leave it peaked it will spoil. So the moral off the story is, yes you need some type of aireation but not much. You realize if you use tile or tubes above floor you can not use a sweep auger and have to shovel the bin empty. Oh by the way last week I bolted a fan to the side of my 2nd bin so I don't anticipate any more problems.

The trucker I hire to haul has a grain vac. I am alergic to shovels. I have used a sweep in my bins with tubes. Just have to remove tubes as I sweep.

I cut a floor down for a old 17 foot diameter Harvestore silo. Put all the floor panels together on a cement floor. Found the center then used a string to draw the circle. Cut it out. Fit so perfect didn't use any flashing, just a small bead of caulk around the edge. Mark

A floor is the way to go. Like the others have said it makes removal easy with the center dump and sweep. The one option you have is to try it without a floor this year and see what happens. I can scoop with the best of them, but at age 56 I have better things to do then sweat to death in a dusty dirty environment. I have scooped out many storage areas including wooden and steel. Like was said earlier used floors are abundant. I saved 2 floors last week from a dozer at a neighbors farm. I didn't have time to save four bins and one other floor. They are buried now. Having a floor and fan gives you more options to manage your grain. I dry outside of the bin in a dryer and cool the grain in the bin. When winter sets in I further cool the grain to freezing temperatures. I put air to the corn once or twice during the winter. Then in the spring I warm the corn up. If necessary before marketing the corn can get air once or twice. I have four 18 foot seven ring bins and one 24 foot seven ring bin and each has only a one horse power fan. Takes time to move air through the corn. Can't really do drying with only a one horse power 12 inch fan. I tried it one year. You have to count on the corn being drier in the field and secondly you have to count on there being some heat in the air when you put it in the bin. Certainly can manage the corn through storage although. Good luck. You own experiences can sometimes be the best teacher for your situation.
