Had a bearing failure on my hayrake today. This bearing is at end of reel, attaches rod with teeth to star wheel. Called dealer 30 miles away. He wanted $54.37 for new one. Now, this is just a ball bearing mounted on a 3/4" threaded shaft. Bearing alone is $45 at NAPA store. Found same bearing on line (same part no.) for $2 each. Had to buy minimum $20 worth, but that's ten bearings! Add a 3/4" bolt, and a homemade shim I can cut off a piece of pipe, and I have a setup almost exactly like the factory part. Think it will work?

Hard to believe a $2 bearing is going to hold up for long - you may need all 10 to get through the season.

had the same thing happen bought one from one vender 18.oo ,bought another just like it from another source for 16.00, was at agri-supply getting some disc bearings ,whats on the shelf next to them but the same bearings i paid 16 & 18 dollars, for 2.00 i bought 4 more there still in use no problems

Several years ago, lighting struck our house, went through the surge protector and took out my computer's power supply. It was a proprietary unit, and the manufacturer wanted $225 (plus S&H)for a new one. I typed in the model and serial number of the power supply and found one for $19.95 with free shipping. Computer works to this day.
Front wheel seal for an Oliver was $45 from AGCO. Each.
Napa had them for $7.

Years ago I purchased a copy machine (Pitny Bowes).

It needed a little pump on top of the toner. The service department from a town 50 miles awaqy said they could service the machine for $200.00 if they had three calls in our area. I out smarted them and just ordered the pump---COD. $65.00 for the pump---I got by cheap and out smarted the butt heads.

Then I ordered the toner from a office suply, ----EACH bottle of towner was $6.00-------------and included the pump with each bottle....*$_#.

I have driven past the place a few times and decided I best not stop in for a chit chat, as they would probably call security before I got done with my chit chat.

A while back, lost a bearing on the motor on dishwasher. New motor $130. New bearing $2 at local starter/generator rebuilder's backyard shop.
Dishwasher is running with a GM starter bearing. Week later, I had vacuum brush assembly apart for cleaning - yup, identical bearings - any fail, I'm going to see starter rebuilder friend.

Ive used a lot of bearings in water pumps, alternators, generators and such. They cost 89 cents in lots of 10.Very few US made bearings now.Bearing shops can supply bearings at 1/2 implement dealer prices.

Don't complain to me when another small local dealer goes bust. And you have to drive several hours to a large Mega Dealer.

Bearing shop is 25 miles away. One dealer sells nails for 4 bucks a pound ,another gets 1.69 a pound, who would you buy from.3 dealers that sell carriage bolts I use at 54 cents each 34 cents each and 24 cents each. All the same distance away.Who would you buy from?I make a want list, make one trip, buy my dog a hamburger with the money saved.Too many dealers operate like they have no competion.

Sometimes! Lately we have been able to get some bearings cheaper from the stealerships! Anymore ya gotta call six different people to get six different prices and see which one is the best value.
