My boy started school today, freshman in highschool.Boy,if that don't mark the end of summer! It was a big emotional step for all of us.

So I was waiting with my kid for the bus this morning like I have very year, every morning and we were talking about gettin' him some behind the wheel time to ready him for his farm driver's permit(when he turns 15).Also talked about the upcoming fall harvest and what I needed him to do.

The bus was spotted down the road about a mile and I got a little choked up.My kid patted me on the back and said "it's OK dad".A proud parent moment.

Anyone else send their kids off?

Where are you from? Didn't know any school started this late any longer. As a kid school was always out around 5/20 and started back after Labor Day. Had relatives and those kids had a split year. No school at harvest time so kids helped with harvest. GOSH! today CPS would be on you in a jiff and you would be in jail.

VA starts their public schools the day after Labor Day and has for years. Could change soon for some political reasons. I know what you mean about getting choked up. Real men do cry and it don't mean we're weak!

I know what you mean Brad. My daughter is driving herself to school now, and my son is entering 8th grade. Seems like just the other day we were that age ourselves.
Your son will have a great time at OHS.
Have a safe harvest!

Today was Luke's 3rd day of school for this year. (in pre-K again... he's smart enough for kindergarten, but not ready for full days, 5 days a week) I was taking him in from the barn tonight (before I was done, since he needed to get to bed for school, and he wasn't happy about that), and he said, "Daddy, I can't handle school any more. I just can't!" Hmmmm.... maybe a bit like me?

I sent mine to middle school this year and sure know what you mean. Seems like just yesterday he was in diapers and now he's playing soccer leading into basketball. His school started the 10th of August and was one of the last to start. Kid that had been helping me in hay went back the 28th of July.

My son started 4th grade on Tuesday. He wasnt happy to go back......I told him that he at least got almost 3 months off of school and I have to work.....All the time and I dont get loooong vacations. He still wasnt happy. Life is tough kid get used to it.

Last Wednesday my 5 year old, youngest son, started all day kindergarten.Oldest started third grade.Got a little choked up after putting them on the bus.Where does the time go?

Not all districts in Virginia start after Labor Day. Due to winter weather and the possibility of missed days, our kids started August 18th.

My son started high school this year, hard to believe he has reached that age. But worse was my oldest daughter starting college. She is very independent and was ready to get out of the house and be living in her own place (dorm room), right up to the time we loaded the truck. Then the tears started with both she and my wife. 24 hours after dropping her off she called wanting to know if it was time to come home yet. The next shock will be when she comes home in a couple of weeks and finds out her sister moved into her old room and her stuff is in the basement.

sent 5 girls off today and 1st son goes tomorrow to kindergarten.Remembered last nite school started today, got me nervus just thinking about them haveing to go to school. At least they were all exited to go,I hated school and dreaded the first day,so I must be doing something right because they all like school.

Had a good frost this morning so that takes care of some of the vegies.Seems a little early but it is Manitoba and anything can happen.

my kids are homeschooled 2 in the third grade.. no waiting for the bus and they already know their teacher

This week our three children all start school on differing days. Our daughter will be going back to college on Friday. I'm deeply greatful it is only 60 miles away and that she has made a few good friends that bring her home often. She was one of only 8 kids to earn an AA degree while still in high school through the head start program at the local community college. Little did we know that while the cost was minimal the credits would follow her to the University but NOT the GPA. Now she is compiling her universtity GPA with all the difficult Junior/Senior classes and it is tough sledding.

I never understood how at work virtually all my coworkers express profound relief that their children are going back to school and yearn for the day they leave the house, often expressing that when they turn 18, they are on their own. I delight in my children and particularily the time off they have in the summer. My best child hood memories are normally of my freely spent summers. Rather I view with a certain amount of dread the stress, the complex homework which begins to exceed our ability to assist with and the endless science and english "projects" which require staggering amounts of time on the behalf of the student, often as much from the parent and practically none on the part of the teacher.

Yes school has started again. Brace yourselves.
