Has anyone used (Hairy Vetch) this as a winter cover on their gardens. Oh and I will be plowing it under in the spring with my WD 45 to make this a somewhat legal posting.

Neighbor just planted some on his wheat stubble, see what happens by next spring.

Usta plant it as a cover crop back in the 50s; it would get waist high and it was impossible to turn it under without working it down with a disc........often 2 or 3 times with the discs we had back then.

yes I have in the past. You have to plant it with a nurse crop (oats) so it doesn't get out competed by the weeds. In ME you have to wait till mid may before you plow it under. I switched to winter rye, cheaper, less hassle, though it doesn't produce any nitrogen. I'd suggest red clover if you are looking for nitrogen. If just a cover, winter rye

Had a customer in the store last week and his plans were to seed some this fall UNTILL he priced the seed. I an,t remember the figure but seemed like it was going to take his bank account to sow about 30 acres.. I think he opted for Oats.
