Little kid's first crawler ride - warning - many photos

I had to move my crawler-loader today a few miles across the mountain (1960 Deere 1010). From my woodlot to home. My little 6 year-old kid is pretty cautious and usually says "no" when I ask him along. Today, for the first time he said he wanted to ride. So, stuck him on my lap and across the moutainside we went.

Beautiful day for it. I'm amazed I got the crawler out of the woods. It is so steep you almost can't walk it without crawling on four-legs. This crawler only has flat pads on it; i.e. no high grousers.

Little kid said "that was neat", which is high praise coming from him.

He'll remember that for a long time. Neat photos and thanks for sharing your memory making moment with us.

Many years ago when my son was about 4 or 5 I took the TD-6 I had at the time out to the field with him on my lap. I then stopped it and showed him what each lever did and then jumped off of it and let him drive it around. By doing that I sort of got a monster out of him because the only tractor he now likes are ones with tracks or steel wheels. Work the same way when I got him his first motorcycle and he now rides one of those a lot. But it is neat to start them off young and lets hope he wants to keep things going after you retire

really nice pictures, that will be a great helper you have there! that looks like a really handy loader also thanks for all the great pictures

Is that a solar panel on the barn for heating water? A big one if it is. How's it do for efficiency? Beautiful place where you live, where is it? I've always preferred vacationing in the mountains when I could, but went to the beach (Nags Head,N.C.) last week and got"evicted" by Earl!! Good looking older dozer too.

Great pics! Your son is lucky to grow up with a Dad that spends quality time with him, doing activities like riding on the Dozer.

They have an annual charity event here called The Big Dig, where kids get to ride and operate (Under strict supervision) all kinds of heavy equipment.. Sure good to see them doing such hands-on activities..

Not for water. It's 5400 watts worth of solar-electric panels. It runs our house and barn. I built that barn with a special angle on one roof just to capture the soutern sun. All the inverters are in that barn, so the long run to the house is high voltage AC, not low-voltage DC.
