OT: Dog's Name

Friend called the other night, had a buddy that was gonna put his dog down the next day.
I said bring him on over.
His name was Trigger.
Knew a dog when I was a kid, reminded me of him.
Started calling him Hector, which he responded to.
I had all the dogs out the other day, in kind of a hurry,
slip-of-the-tongue called him Tractor.
Shoot, he came better to that name than any other.
Tractor it is.
I can see where it could get kinda confusing at times...
He runs off, I'm wanderin' around aimlessly shouting "Tractor, Tractor", the guys in the field will think I finally lost it...

I don't know if you put the dog down or not.

Years, decades ago when I was stationed in Germany, during the time when I lived in the barracks before moving out and downtown Mannheim on my own, was another GI I drank many beers with many nights lived in the barracks too. His name was Bob. So one Friday my barracks roomate says to me, "Hey, Greg and the guys are coming over and we're going out for beers, wanna come with?". I didn't know who Greg was and asked who's Greg. My roomate says that I know who Greg is, been out drinking beer with him and the fellas many times. I didn't know who Greg was. After awhile there's a knock at the door, I open it, its Bob, so I say "Hey Bob, come on it", and he does. My roomate looks at him and says, "I thought your name was Greg", to which Bob confirmed that it was Greg. For the better part of a year, I had been drinking beer with the guy and calling him Bob to his face, so I ask, "Wait a minute Bob, how can your name be Greg if its Bob", to which he replied, "No Mark, my name's Greg, I just knew who you were talking to whenever you yelled or said Bob".

From that day, embarrassment forward, I never correct anyome on my name more than once. If they call me Bob or Frank or whatever, so long as they're not bad mouthing me when they do it, and I know who they're talking to or about, what's in a name?

I am explaining my first name all the time.......doesn't really matter as it has been messed up by pretty much everybody when they first meet me.

Our dogs seem to grow into their names somewhat but they usually end up with quite a few not so nice nicknames.

" I don't know if you put the dog down or not."

Guess I wasn't too clear, no, I gave him a home, didn't put him down.
Was just gonna foster him, but we have one dog that's real unsociable, this dog came along and she has found her best buddy. I'd have never believed it, Just by the slip of the tongue, I wound up and named him Tractor.
Tellin' my daughter I had a Tractor that operates on voice command, small enough to fit in the jeep, and instead of gas or diesel actually runs on dog chow...

Well, that's a good thing. All of our dogs have always been scrappers that other folks no longer wanted and were going to toss in the trash heap. They make the best dogs of all.

Our newest dog, a Golden was going to be put to sleep because the husband lost his job, the wife had her hours cut to half, and the son moved home because he lost his job, so Macy was going to get put to sleep until found out. She's a wonderful dog, follows me everywhere when I'm home on weekends.

Here's one. Yesterday I went to a sister's house for a cookout, and some neighbors came over and brought their dog, a 20 lb or so mixed breed, and they said it was a nervous wreck because it witnessed a murder. I thought they were joking. They weren't. I don't know the particulars, but some lady over in Southbend killed her roomate, stabbed her to death repeatedly, and the dog whitnessed it and freaked, and somehow the sister's neighbors read or found out about it, and adopted it, but now its on some kind of medication that makes its days full of peaceful rainbows and stuff. It seemed kind of normal when it came to me and let me pet it. Was a bit slow to react though because was in its chemically induced happy place. I thought they were joking, but nope they weren't.
