successful trip to Illionois

Thanks for the good advice. Took my neighbor in my GMC/427 & 33' trailer to Minear IL (near Bloomfield or maybe it's Bloomington) Tues-Wed. Took 26 hrs & over $400 in hi-test gas. He drove a third & I 2/3rds. He paid gas, motel & our only meal. Charged like you said $1/loaded mile for the 410 mile loaded trip. We picked up his 12-row JD planter at Cross Implement Inc. (BIG JD dealer). Planter when folded was 4 ft. longer that trailer. When we crashed at motel we'd been 30 hrs w/o sleep (left 10 pm, got there 7 am & they were already running wide open). Slept 3 hrs & hit for home. Amazing how refreshed the body can be from 3 hrs sleep after a tense trip. Accursed Interstates tested severely every weld in truck & trailer. We were thrown up off the seats more times than I can remember.

Yeah, we get a lot of compliments on our roads in Illinois. Long ways to come for the planter isn't it or he just like doing business with Cross's?

Bloomington, Illinois? On Y2K New Years Day, I changed the water pump on a Ford Aerostar van in the parking lot of an Autozone parts store in Bloomington.

Wasn't the way I'd planned to spend the day, but when you're broke down 5-600 miles from home, you do what ya gotta.

closest one he could find of that size. Looked all over the 'net. Ones around here are all worn out. His brother had done business with Cross before but this was first time he'd been there. We're from Nashville TN area.

That is a good sized dealership. Most of the Cross's are good people- I'm related to some of them on my Dad's side, and some more on my Mom's side. In fact, my niece is marrying one (not a relative!) Wife's sister lives in Minier. Sounds like a successful trip- no crashes and no equipment failure is a good thing.
