loose sleeves

HI all

I just installed new sleeves in my M. Two of them slid in with little effort. Now when I rotate the crank (with the pistons in), these sleeves slide in and out of the block instead of staying put. Should I put some sleeve retainer on these, or can I run it like this?

Owen I bought locktite sleeve retainer and it worked very well. Just clean the cyl.wall and the sleeve wall real well and put a thin film and get them in right now and let them set over night and you will be good to go.

There is not a problem using locktite sleeve retainer. I have used it too. You should bolt the sleeve down so that it is firmly bottomed in the recess as it sets up. Locktite that sets up under the flange can cause the sleeve height above the block to be too high.
 
we use to put a loose sleeve in with brake fluid and not look back-- it literly rusted in and it worked every time --good luck!!
 
sleaves should fit tight in block are else will not transfer heat away,and will score piston dont take the chance of that happening
 

The 2 cylinders with the loose fitting sleeves most likely have a letter or number stamped into the top of the block right next the cylinder. This means that for one reason or another, those cylinders ended up getting bored a little bit larger at the factory, and they require a slightly larger O.D. sleeve. To do the job right, you really do need to toss those 2 loose fitting sleeves into the trash or at least return them to where you bought them, and get the CORRECT sized sleeves. You may need to contact your local Case-IH dealer.
