6.5 has too much power

Just kidding about the too much power, I have a 94 that I just got back from the diesel shop. It wanted to stall as I went down the road, the y said it was the fuel pump driver. They asked if I wanted them to order a new one, I said well it won't do much good without it! Then they asked which one do I want, standard, medium, or heavy duty. Of course I went with heavy duty, they said it would gain more power, didn't say how much but it does feel more powerful. Anyone know how much it actualy added? I have no idea. I found a bully dog chip that I might stick on some time, that would add up to 40 more hp. The bill today was 740. Yeah not cheap!

Did they lube you up pretty good when they bent you over for the $740?

You can buy the best PMD on the market, made by Flight Systems Incorporated, and now the part preferred and sold by by GM for $163 or LESS.

I HOPE the screwing you took felt GOOD!

Below is ONE source. I've bought a couple from them. GOOD folks and a GOOD product.
A good PMD at a GOOD price

Good thing the world is full of smart people such as yourself to point out how stupid everyone else is. What a jacka$$.

aerutj,

So telling the guy the truth that he paid $740 for a $163 part makes me a j a c k a s s, eh? There's markup and a bit of labor to install it, but they did QUITE well for their time.

I'm kinda think'in if he had posted on here BEFORE they gave him the 'ol "job" he'd have been better off and could have saved QUITE a few bucks.

Of course, you prefer to "shoot the messenger".

$163 is a lot cheaper than I could find a PMD for my 6.5L before I sold truck. It was a fun experience for engine to start and get you somewhere and then not start. GM engineers over did themselves by hiding PMD under HOT intake(at engine operating temp) and think attached to inj pump would keep it COOL

Thanks Bob, yes you are right I should have posted here first. They sure are making bussiness at that place. I am not sure he was calling you a jacka$$ or the repair shop? Here is another of those learn from your mistakes. Any more problems and I will put it on here. Thanks again Bob, and all the guys and gals on this forum, its nice to have people you dont even know help you out!

If they installed it back on the pump,it requires a fair amount of time to do it. They also most likely added the resistor in the harness which adds about 25-30 hp depending on which resistor they used. This being said, counting the new PMD,the resistor, and a couple hours labor I can see where the bill is in the ball park, albeit a little on the high side. If you do chip it at a later date, watch your temperature, especially if towing. There is not alot of airflow through the grill area of those trucks, and they aren't intercooled. if it gets too warm on a hard pull they will blow head gaskets and/or score the back 2 pistons.

Believe it or not, the pump, and the fuel inside it, keep the PMD a lot cooler than you think. I've seen more PMD failures caused by people relocating the driver over keeping it on the pump where it belongs.

Speaking of too much power. Back in the '70's I had a couple of Yamaha YZ 250s that I used to tear it up with. They did OK. Back then their big YZ kept going back and forth from like 460 to 490 down to like 465 and then up to I think was a 500. Powerful YZs. Which ever, when ever, was 490 or 500 that I took out behind the Yamaha shop, figuring to buy it because the 250's had out littled themselves. I don't recall how long that field was behind the shop, but every gear I hammered brought the front end way up, and I wasn't trying. That was good grassy dirt, good rear tire, and a lot of power with lots of power to spare. I should have bought that thing and don't remember why I didn't. Maybe I knew I'd have been dead before they invented the internet and YT in place of YZ.
