DUDE!!!! Did I just have the brainstorm or what???????????

Have vacation the month of September and promised myself a couple things. One is to empty a perfectly good workshop that I haven't seen the floor in in years and make it useable (which will be an inspiration to keep it that way). Kitchens are portable here (apartments are rented with an empty room that has hookups) so workbench and storage can be had from free to expensive (counter top would handle anything I'd throw at it and cabinets would be plenty of storage). Was scratching my head on a parts washer. I have a small one from HF that I haven't opened yet because solvent for it is real expensive here and homebrew concoctions are hard to get rid of.
Now the brainstorm. Appliances here (because of portability/flexibility?) are self contained and just plug in. Dishwashers and washers heat their own water.
Wife's dishwasher has handled some pretty crusty/nasty pots and pans (I cook sometimes) and they come ut shiney new.

Was thinking to pick up a used dishwasher for use as a partswasher because I can get one cheaper that the solvent for my HF washer and use it for cleaning feed bowls, buckets, etc also. For anything real tuff, a shot of oven cleaner the day before should take care of it.

Should I quit my job and start designing workshops????

(quoted from post at 04:26:58 09/01/10) I want some of what ever you are smoking.bet you grew it yourself..

You people need some serious work in the people skills department........ That was quite possibility the idea of the century and there you are making jokes...............

They laughed at Einstein and Tommy Edison too.

Our shop has a water based cleaning tank. It's called a Cuda and they are top of the line in my book. Of course the solution is reused many times.

It is about harvest time in Meigs County. Has anyone sent you a CARE package??? On the other hand, It just might be a GOOD idea. Keith

Is the dishwasher interior stainless steel? Otherwise the interior will turn an uneven grey color that won't wash off. I'd think regular dishwasher liquid would make a good parts cleaner. What with the heated water, you'd have a machine that would cost thousands of $ for a commercial one at essentially no cost. The "solvent" goes right down the drain, too.

Still??????????? Can't remember just where I was because I was lost, but was somewhere near the shade creek and came up on this place that was all grown in but looked like it had had tennis courts or something (by some tall fences that were covered with vines/ivy) Was setting in front of the house trying to guess which direction to go with an almost empty tank of gas. Guy comes out and asks what I'm doing in the area, gave me some gas and said he never wanted to see me again. He didn't either.......... 30 years ago and I can see it like it was yesterday. You folks can keep that county.

Yes, stainless steel. Box of 100 washer superduper HD tablets costs 3 bucks and I found a washer on ebay for 20 bucks buy now. They use about 5 gallons of water for a complete cycle and take about an hour depending on setting.

Sounds pretty good...unless you live in a commie neighborhood that when the oily water hits the treatment plant they come after you with nasty faces.

WHOLE buncha places between me and them and they'd have a better chance hitting lottery than figuring when/if I wash parts.

Sounds like a heck of a plan........wouldn't work for me and my septic system though.

Considering the cost of operating the HF and the cost of your dishwasher idea, give it a try. Since you"re not investing big $$$, you don"t have much to lose and if it works, you"re $$$ ahead.

Go for it. Let us know how it works.

I tried the dishwasher thing, it was not entirely successful, I suppose the used dishwasher I had was about shot anyways. The biggest problem to me is, if you have steel inside its going to rust with all that hot water vapor, not always much problem, until bearings start to rust that you wanted to save.

Just gotta jump on this one.lol. Bought a parts washer from H.F. years ago. Uses UNCLE HENRYS SOAP(not the name of the cleaner) to clean parts. Took out the pump assembly, installed an oil furnance pump uses Fuel oil #1 diesel(sp) with a filter canister like what was used on the furnance. Now when the soltion (fuel oil) becomes so dirty, We pump it off into a container and use it to start off the wood furnance in the garage.Once a year change burner filter. Good to go another year. Now that becomes people Skills. Making do. LOU

The dish washer parts washer idea has been done by a fellow I worked with. It did a good job. Your idea of buying one and putting it in your shop is a great improvement over his idea of sneaking it into the house when his wife was shopping.

They have ways of tracking you . A couple years ago , a company was hired to come thru my area & test all homes drainage systems . They used a dye or something . In the end , they found some neighbors using the sewage system for disposing of more than human waste . They were made revamp their sewage system totally by a licensed plumber & have to have their soil replaced around the old system due to contamination . Plus a hefty fine or jail time . When I built my garage in 78 , I installed a seperate sewage line & water . I was a little concerned about that one tho . But I made it thru ok .You never wanna under estimate the commies or trust nosey neighbors . God bless

There are a hundred chemical plants and refineries around me. They get by with murder.
I had a green tractor that broke a hydraulic line on a box blade. I put down oil dry and did my best to clean it up.
Next thing I know they were pulling me in court and I had to have the concrete removed and disposed of. Then, I had to pay for new concrete.
But, the local trash truck can leak oil in front of every house down the road and not a word is said.
Think of me what you will, but until it happens to you...you will not understand.

Yep, its always the little guy who get the shaft . When I built my garage in 78 , I took my plans to the township lady & disqust the floor drains with her & was approved . I installed 2 drains into a catch pit . Then an outlet 2" above the basin bottom & outside underground 3' down along the road to my property line & then opoen to the street ditch which is all dirt . The only thing ever going out thru this pipe is floor water & maybe some other stuff ( hush, Moms the word) . I've had the supervisors check it out , plus when those inspectors were here a couple years ago . It was all ok'd . But I've had two different neighbors below me try their best to cause me trouble simply because whenever water does come out the pipe from hosing down my floor , they complain that their parking area becomes a swamp .They are too cheap & extremely lazy to dig out the dirt & have shale or a good rock base with gravel installed so they don't have mud . My parking area was muddy also until I did all the above . I have a nice hard surface for 40 yrs now . Anyhow the guy living below me now , every winter he pushes snow & mud up tite to my drain pipe trying to plug the pipe . I've asked him time after time to quit it . He laughs & says he hates how he has a soup hole & I don't . So I then have to shovel the pipe opening out & use a bar to clean out the pipe . The supervisors holler at me for how he blocks surface water alongside the street with his mud & snow. They aren't bold enough to confront the rite guy because he has a towing service which they use freely & don't wanta make hard feelings with him . Tell me that's fair . Oh yea , they've tried finding something I'm doing illegal in my garage .But , nice guy I am , whenever I have my blade on my tractor or truck, I plow they whole neighborhood out being very careful I leave nothing laying on the street . Life is great , isn't it ? God bless

When we first got married many years ago the fellow in the apartment beside us put 4 hubcaps and a cup of tide in their dishwasher. A little heads up here, don't ever do that.A closed dishwasher will Not keep mountains and mountains of suds contained.Pityful but funny.

Yeah...they built a new subdivison behind me. Guy sold his dad's farm to a developer.
Lady came by saying I could not have a tractor in the drive way according to home owner association rules. I told her I had no such thing...or anyone else on the road going into the subdivison.
She turned me in to the city for violation of a city ordinance saying the tractor was an eye sore.
I went to court...to find out my area was ag exempt. She is now sueing the city cause she said they were in violation of state rules.
All of this started cause I play with old iron.

add some cheap degreser and I bet it works fine.
Alot of engine rebuild places have a hot tank that is exactly like a dishwasher just bigger and the use hot solvent of some sort.

If you are home and you see your neighbor plowing just take a picture of him pushing the snow up over your pipe and when the superviser comes around show him the pic.

You should try it with two cups of tide. Wife had me cleaning the kitchen until four in the morning. I thought soap was soap.

She's probably jealous because she can't or doesn't have a tractor . One of the problems in this world is that lawyers love putting ideas in peoples heads so they can make ooogoo bucks . And people don't know how to mind their own business . The way our great pres is working toward capitalism , it's only going to get worse .What's happening to freedom ? God will soon take control
