FIRST of all, when you installed the genny did you POLARIZE IT to match your tractor PolArity?? I ask because if it were at a shop how do you know they used same Polarity as your tractor???
I would to be safe Polarize it by momentarily flash jumping (use lil jumper wire) from BAT on the VR to ARM/GEN and you should get a spark.
I DONT LIKE JUMPING HOT BATTERY VOLTAGE TO THE GENNYS FLD that sounds "very wicked" to me assuming this is a Class A charging system. The FLD post is looking for a ground return path to complete the circuit so current flows through the gennys field windings. The first of the 2 series field windings gets its voltage from the ARM post (or third brush if a 3 brush genny) and then exits out the FLD post to which the VR supplies the needed ground.
If you wanna force it to high max charge (for a Class A system) YOU NEED TO MOMENTARILY ATTACH THE GENNYS FLD TO GROUND NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT BAT
If a genny is at opposite polarity from the battery you can damage the VR !!!!!!!!!!!
The VR CAN NOTTTTTTTTT WORK UNLESS IT HAS A GOOD CASE/FRAME GROUND, INSURE THAT !~!!!!
You may have damaged the VR or genny by what you did (unless its a Class B like some Fords used) soooooooooooooooo I suggest you POLARIZE THE GENNY,,,,,,,INSURE A GOOD VR GROUND,,,,,,THEN run my Troubleshooting Procedure if its a Class A system
BE SURE N RUN MY PARA 5 VR BY PASS TEST TO SEE IF THE GENNY IS OKAY INDEPENDANT FROM THE VR
you basically dead ground the gennys FLD (if Class A) post n see if she charges then
