Friend needs planter hauled in from 400 miles away (800 mile round trip). Not heavy but will take up most of the room on my 33 ft. gooseneck. Will haul with GMC Topkick 1 1/2 ton with 427 gasser. I don't have a clue how or what to charge. Gas here is $2.50 but higher every place else I've seen. Mostly on Interstates. How do I charge, by loaded mile, by the mile?

Well, if he's a GOOD friend, Myself I would just charge for the gas/oil, meals, hotel if needed, wear and tear, and maybe a little extra, or some labor, to help you out for doin' it in the first place. That's just me, though.

If just a friend or aquaintance, I'm sure someone else will chime in with average hauling rates.

Take care,
Dan

Just roughly guessing and depending if your friend is the type that would help you when needed .

I'm figuring at the best with that goose neck empty you may average 9 mpg on highway

At your gas prices , and you would have to carry a min of 88 gal with you it will cost you just for gas $220.00

If you charged him $1.50 a loaded mile would give you $600.00 give or take a couple meals.

I going to take a guess on time too If that is a straight 5 speed trans you will average (not to be confused with the real speed you will get at times) maybe 45 mph looks like 17.7 hours driving time alone.

yes, is a friend that has helped me. Does average 8 mpg. Is a 5 spd/2 spd tranny so your driving time estimate is accurate too.

My buddy normally charges $2/loaded mile, for his 48' trailer.

When he hauls for me, I buy the fuel just like he buys the rod/gas when I weld for him. We don't keep careful track of traded time, prefer it that way. Lately I've given him a lot of time about a rental house he wants to buy. There's a steel hauling trip coming up for me. Last trip for me was hauling a windmill.

About $2 per loaded mile if a friend. I am planning on having a load of cattle hauled home form an auction this Saturday, a distance of 144 miles and the guy will charge me 2.90 per loaded mile. This is in Texas. Tom

Better check your insurance if your getting paid.
You might not have any insurance if you have an accident and they find out you were hauling for money.
