Pumpkins this fall

Just wondering how the pumpkims are doing this year. They aren't grown much around here, only in small gardens. Last year it was nearly impossible to find in the local stores. Just wondering if this year is going to be the same. There doesn't seem to be any in the stores again this year. Keith

We grow the miniature variety, both orange and white, in our garden strictly for our own use and to give to family members, but those little things have just gone gangbusters this year and are threatening to take over the entire backyard.

Last year they were left to rot by the multi wagon loads, guess no market. One place last year had I would guess had between 2 & 3 acres out, this year none. Last year he must have had 15 wagon loads go to waste.

Seen mounds laying at a barn last week, would have I would guess been wating for someone to pickup to take to produce auction. This was Amish without any way to haul them themselves for the distance they had to go.

Same here, family use only. I have 2 patches.
1 with giants is doing very well. Last check was better than last year. Last year we had 20 over 90 lbs, 10 of those were in the 150-200lbs range.
The 2nd is small pumpkins, carving size pumpkins and gourds. About the same as last year.

Have fun.....don t. .....

I see that you're in Franklin Furnace. I work for Brown Services out of Wheelersburg, but I'm very seldom down that way. We do safety for AEP & Dayton Power & Light among others. Keith

What do you do for Brown? My dad worked for AEP for 441/2 years in the former dispatch office in Huntington.

my crop of pumpkins are doing ok even w/ the drought we have had this summer. when they were blossoming i had an over abundance of males and not very many females. which i think is why i don't have as many pumpkins as i have had b4. the acorn and butternuts look to be a great crop this yr.

Got a half acre growing this year 3 kinds and those little decorative type. sold pretty good last year at my road side stand.
Victor want to try taking some to Calif. this year.
Corn is doing great should ready in couple weeks.
