what part does the 14 guage wire on the side of the solinoid on my j.d. 620 play ? does it have any thing to do with the operation of the starter?

Dear Popa Joe,
The 620 unlike the 630 doesn't have a solenoid. The 620 has a mechanical switch on top of the starter. The small wire goes to the coil and bypasses the ballast resistor in order to provide a hotter spark while cranking.

Thank you for your answer I have been trying to figure this out for a while tractor does not start well. the lug inside the switch was broke maby this has been part of the problem again I thank you
