Current Scrap Iron price list

Was just sitting here with a buddy shooting the breeze, talkin about what to do with some of the loose iron we have layin around. Neither one of us knew what scrap was goin for. We looked around online and couldn't for the life of us find what scrap was goin for.

Is there a website that gives a straight foreward answer?

What is regular, clean farm shop scrap goin for?

It varies from state to state, yard to yard it seems, but.. just over 2 weeks ago I got:

$150/ton sheet metal, cars, mixed scrap (basically lighter steel, possibly a little heavy mixed in)

$170/ton Plate/structure, heavy melt, etc.. (heavy iron)

$0.57/ pound Mixed aluminum (some sheet, some siding, some cast, some crushed soda cans)

I know in recent history it has been higher, but back in high school I hauled in ALOT of scrap for $25-50 a ton.. Wish I had stockpiled LOL

Scott,
That place has a nice and informative website. I didn't know the difference between red and yellow brass so I looked it up even though at my age I probably don't need to know. If anyone is interested click the link below.

Varies a lot by region. I got $32 for 800 lbs (an old plow that had been so cut up and adjusted it wasn't worth restoring). Works out to $80 a ton. Hardly worth the time and fuel to haul it to town in my opinion, but its not in my way anymore.

I tend to agree with ya on the not worth the time, but it is nice to get the place tidy-ied up. Figured the next time I went to town, I'd throw some in to pay for fuel at least.

Thanks for the replies.
