Just looked at a ford tractor; blue with 3 cyl gas engine with a generator, 4-spd trans and non-live pto. Rear tires are 14.9-28. Pad on trans reads 3(?)022A with C138588 stamped in below it. Any idea of model yr, model, etc? - Sam K.

The serial number makes it a 1966, and the only three cylinder that I can see was built in '66 with a four speed was the 3000

if its 31022a.. 3=its a 3000, 10= is all purpose,
2= is gas engine, 2= is 540 transmission pto, a = 4 speed tranny.

but in 66 they made a 2000 and 4000 with a 3 cyl engine also.

Sam:

Be sure to drive it before buying. A friend of mine has a 3000 with 4 speed transmission and non live PTO. It is geared extraordinarily high.

I've driven it and find first gear too fast for bush hogging on all but mostly level ground.

Dunno.
I had a 3 cyl 2000 with the 4 speed which for all intents and purposes is the same tractor as that 3000.
I used it for bush hogging for about 3 years and did not think it was geared too high. Usually I mowed in second and it was Not just on level ground.
True the 4 speed does not have the gear selection of the 8 speed models but for most tasks it is entirely adequate.
I only sold mine because I found a 3600 with more options.
They are great small tractors.

Thanks for your input, guys - that makes it older than I'd been led to believe. They are asking $2800, and it will need both Rear tires replaced, so I offered $1500. Would really like live pto, tho. -Sam
