finally finished cutting 3rd crop

And was it ever thick. We're about 3 weeks behind with what I cut today., but if we were gonna bale it either the weather wasn't cooperating or my schedual wasn't cooperating to fix a bad bearing on the hydro-swing's crimper and put it back on after swthing our oats.

Dad and I decided screw baling, the weather doesn't hold off long enough. Gonna chop it and put it in the silo as our corn will have room to spare anyway. Tomorrow I'll try to bring the camera along with me so I can snap a few pictures while going hard.

With all the moisture we've gotten lately, 4th crop should still come on strong. Where Dad cut 3rd crop 2-3 weeks ago with the smaller machine the 4th crop looks really nice. What he had cut last Monday to bale got rained on Thursday night so we just raked it double and chopped it after a heavy 1/2 hr shower on Friday. Still plugged the blower today while blowing it in the silo though.

The only thing that'll change my plans for tomorrow is if my wife goes into labor. She was due today, but so far nothing. I told her way back that she'd probably go into labor as soon as we had all the hay down and we were ready to pick it up. Now she says she's having pains.....

Yep, that is how it goes. My son was born when I was trying to plant corn a couple years ago, Just started for the year and I got a call that her water broke, dont think I got 2 acres planted! Congrats on having a little one. Is this your first? Your a little faster at making hay on that side of the state, I am going to finnish second tommorrow.

Yep, this is our first. Been married for a little over 2 years now, and together for just over 8 years total. Kinda figured this was the way our son would make his grand entrance. It has been a while (hour or more) since she's felt a contraction though, so it could be another false labor. (I'm hoping he holds off for 1 more day...)

Our 1st crop was almost a complete bust. We cut first crop to chop it Memorial weekend, and then we got rain for 3 weeks. Only got hay off of what we bought from a neighbor and 4 acres of our own. 2nd crop was pretty rough just from running it down 1 week prior to cutting, chopping 1st crop back on the ground. I should have just taken another day off from work so we could have busted our butts to get it done, but I didn't. Been kicking myself since.

The last of our 3rd crop is 3 weeks behind where it should have been, but with everything else being so screwed up, it's just the way it ended up. Our oats was also taken off atleast 3 weeks late, but being there is new seeding in there we surely didn't want to rut that up as bad as we did the rest of our hay fields.

4th crop, the way it looks, should at the very least be just as good as a decent 2nd or 3rd cutting. This cutting has so much grass, weeds, and other "stuff" growing with it, it looks more like a 1st cutting. Never seen a 3rd crop so weedy before. It's just been so wet, it's been hard to get anything done.

The water levels are just starting to go back down and we got another heavy storm yesterday after we chopped what was on the ground. About 15-20 mile East a farmer lost his shed and a couple others are missing steel from their buildings. A few silos are topless now too. Had marble size hail at our farm, but not much so not really any damage.

Been an odd year, that's for sure.
