I had written about the ladder breaking and cause me to break my hip, I didnt add that the day before I lost my buddy,Leroy, a golden Retervier/black lab mix.He was over 15 and his time had come,

You can buy a new ladder, your hip will heal but Leroy is gone...that's a tough day for sure.

That was a tough day.

A month ago, while backing her minivan out of the garage, my wife had the misfortune of backing over her favorite cat and killing it.

I can't begin to describe how distraught my wife was, so I won't even try. However, from the cat's actions earlier, I suspect it may have been very ill and unable to move fast enough to clear out from under the van.

Here's where it gets interesting. An unfortunate witness to it all was a littermate of the cat that got killed, also a two year old spayed female named "Snowflake". After the fact, all I could do was get a shovel, go across the driveway into the shelterbelt, dig a grave, and bury the one that got killed. Snowflake stayed right with us the whole time, mewing kind of softly.

When the burial was done, I got out a hose and cleaned a bit of mess off the driveway. When I was putting the hose away, I heard a cat in the shelterbelt and walked over to investigate. Snowflake was sitting beside the grave and crying. I'll be forever convinced that pets are aware of more than we realize and are just as capable of feeling and expressing emotion as humans.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, but it came to mind.

Sorry for the loss of you dog, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Those are my feelings to,Thanks to all for the kind replys.

We lost our lab mix companion of 10 years this year to kidney failure. We had to put her to sleep and I don't remember feeling so much grief in my life.

We have a new dog now but she will never replace our old friend Bailey. Bailey was a shelter dog that we rescued and we also rescued our new dog too. That makes us feel a bit better no matter what the outcome.

My heart goes out to you and your family on your loss.

Good luck with your hip.

Best regards,

Bob

Sorry about the hip and your friend.

Love my dogs, each and every last one I've ever had and ever will. Its a killer when time has come for them to pass on. I don't want to go into it because it sure makes me sad, and not many things does. Lets just say that I love my dogs, always will, and leave it at that.

Take care.

Mark
