Suggest you ask on the Fordson board below for more expert opinion.

We had a Fordson when I was a boy and I have driven it. I have no idea about the fireing order. It has a manual spark advance system with control levers on the dash, RH side as I recall. It was retarded to start, advanced as it warmed up. You are using gasoline to start with instead of kerosene aren't you?

I was at Biltmore Estate, Ashville, NC when they started a Fordson. They said the magnets on the flywheel needed replacing and they hooked a 12 volt battery to it somewhere, I think the coils, to get enough juce to start it.

They turn over better if the oil is warm. Once Daddy put coals of fire under the oil pan in the winter to warm up the oil.

Good luck, let us know if you get it running.

I haven't started my Fordson for years, stuck now. Not certain but I think the order was 1,2,4,3. Mine has an impulse mag that snaps when you crank it over. I used to pull it often, especially in cold weather. I believe the rearing up was because the clutch doesn't release immediately. I used to stand on the clutch/brake pedal pulling up on the steering wheel to get it to stop, put the crank thru the milkroom door once trying to stop to fill the rad.
