last year we had quite a few blue jays around, this year, have not seen one. heard the west nile virus has just about eliminated them in this area.

Same here north of Atlanta, we have seen one all spring and summer.I think you're right about the virus getting them. It killed a lot of crows a year or so ago but they seem to have made a comeback.

The noisy cusses can stay away from hear as far as I am concerned. They are pretty, though.

Seen two. Once at the farm and a couple times here in town, undoubtedly a diminished number. In my opinion a very pretty but noisy and a relatively dirty bird (but not in the same league as a morning dove). All better than starlings.

We have them here in Southern Illinois, but the population does seem to be down a little. My wife feeds the birds, and they visit the feeders every day. They are noisy and aggressive, but they are one of nature's watchdogs. They let everthing know when a hawk is on the prowl.

Plenty here just north of Nawlens. I plunk them with my pellet gun when they overload my bird feeder. Sorta natural selection in favor of the cardinals.

We have brown jays all year. They are larger than a blue jay but the mockingbirds still go after them. Noisiest birds here are the parrots that fly over in the morning and evening.

Not many Stellars jays (the classic "blue jay"- all dark blue, with topknot) around western WA anymore, but plenty of scrub jays. They moved in about 20 years ago (I remember when I saw the first one, in 1989). Oppossums are another non-native import- they came in the mid '60's, according to an old neighbor, although I probably saw my first one in the '70's. They seem to have adapted well- plenty of busy roads on which to commit suicide.

Plenty of 'em here in western NY - more than usual in fact.

Not unusual to see (and hear!) 3 or 4 at once out on my wife's the backyard feeders.

Sorry glennster, all of your jays moved into corn crib. You can come take them home whenever it is convenient.

Had a couple in the back yard this winter off and on. Haven't seen them much this summer. Too hot, I think they moved Canada---cooler. Maybe!

There all down here in southeast Texas. Seen more than ever this year, but interestingly saw very few robins during spring.

We had a pair that raised a pair of chicks. One of my retired co-worker's has a pair of Pileated woodpeckers and they had another pair of chicks again this year. I had a pair behind me before they filled the 55 acres with houses. Hal

How many do you want? All I have to do is lean out of our bedroom window and grab a bunch of them out of thetree.

Jay's and crows are the first to go when west nile virus is in the area. Sparrows carry the west nile virus and don't die just pass it along to other birds and ends up in humans.

Naw - But saw a few blue BL's Saturday!
Had to swat some skeeter's but don't know which ones were from West Nile, Illinois.
