My wife is in San Diego visiting her 100 year old mother's 98 year old sister. Their mother was 102 when she passed away. Still had a very active and inquiring mind, especially for politics, but hearing and eyesight went. So far, daughters are in much better health, so who knows?

On my side they peel off in their nineties. My father was almost 96 and my mother was 93 so we passed some good genes on to our children.

Genetics do indeed seem to play a strong role in determining longevity.

I have longevity in both paternal and maternal lines. I told my daughter, now in mid 30s, that with modern medicine I would expect her to live to be age 120. Not really so far fetched as it might sound as my aunt lived to be age 105, my dad 97, and my grandmother 98.
