Grrrrrr.........

This morning, I needed a simple 3" V belt pulley with a 1/2" bore for the pump on a log splitter.

In a town of 6,000, I went through a hardware store, a farm store, two auto parts houses, a CaseIH dealer, and a John Deere dealer and struck out. I'm sure the CaseIH and John Deere dealers each had one that would work, but if you don't have an application the parts men don't know what you're talking about.

Yet the Chamber of Commerce screams, "Shop at home!"

My rant for the day.

they would have really been messed op in the head if you wanted an adjustable one for a furnace blower. Got one laying around ??

"6000 is pretty small" ... Depends where you are. I live 5 miles outside the county seat, the only city in the county, pop. almost 4000. COunty population is under 10,000.
But ANY dealer should have been able to set you up withwhat you needed... most have weldable hubs with barious sizes of sheaves that can go on them, in stock.

This isn't about the engineering considerations, it's a rant about nobody having a simple pulley.

I forgot about them.

I'll have to check them out, although they haven't seemed to be that active lately. Bowker's wife got sick several years ago, terminally, I think, and about then he was looking for someone to keep the door open half days on a flexible schedule so he could spend more time with his wife.

I talked to him about it as I had a loose schedule at the time, but somehow we never got together.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like you're familiar with the Seward area.

Same thing happens here in a town of 5000. chamber of crooks is a big joke, economic development office is a bigger joke,Shop at hometo me , means within a 150 mile radius.

Seems like the opposite around here. I go 25 miles to the Farm & Fleet and the Tractor Supply Co in a town of 100k and they didn't have the belt I needed, but the ones the wrong size are $15.99. A week later I go to the town of 2500 which is 25 miles in the opposite direction from my farm and the mom & pop farm store has it hanging off the ceiling. The guy behind the counter gets it down with a hook and measures my old belt just to be sure it's right. Charges me $5.49.

Yep, depends on where you are. The entire population of Arthur County, Nebraska is less than 300.

Sounds like your dealers need to hire better people. Any parts man that knows anytyhing should be able to find you up a simple pully.
