I have a 1950 Case SC with a fresh paint job.

My question is how to go about chaining down the front of the tractor without touching the paint?

The back is simple, I just can't come up with a solution for the front and I'm running out of time before the Thresherman's Show that starts on 8-18.

if it's a wide front end ... have seen tied down over the tires ... like some car haulers do ...

I have added a "loop" of 3/8 x 2 steel under either the front frame or the bell housing of my tractors. Usually there's a place to mount cultivators that can be adapted for this purpose. I think the Case has a place for a square tube that might be used. Main object is to add a place to fasten a chain that won't damage paint on the actual tractor. If you can add something that does not change the looks of the tractor that's a bonus. Just a thought.

About the only sure-bet way is to make a saddle for the wheels to drop in, with a raised piece 2" wide that is maybe 4" high in the middle of the saddle to go between the wheels to keep them from turning while on the trailer. The 2" wide raised piece is just a bit wider than the gap between the wheels, so it's a tight fit. Then go over the top of the wheels with straps that will cup over the sides of the wheels so they don't slide off. I've seen harvesters tie combines down to trailers this way. The wheels sit in saddles and a wide strap goes arond the outside diameter of the wheel. With a combine it's not safe or legal, but they do it. Jim

I got these machinery lifting eyes at Fastenal. They are rated for 15,000 straight pull or 5,000 side pull. I mounted them with grade 8 bolts. Mine are a threaded nut style, they also have them with a male thread although lengths are limited. They work great. Chains or straps both work well.

Paul, you're right about the place for the square tubing; I've thought of getting 2 pieces of it and welding short chains to them and bolting them in those spots.
