40-50hp tractor for hills?

Time to replace our ageing Farmall 460 and Ford (4cyl.) 4000 with something newer. Looking not to spend over 15k. We have lots of hills and lots of wet low ground. Love the sound of that 6cyl. 460 but too big for what we use it for. 80 acres (50 woods, 20 swamp/house/yard, 10 tillable.) While we are not afraid to work on machines (replaced water pumps, radiators, hyd pumps, etc.) my dad is getting on in years and we just don't want to spend half our time keeping the older iron running any more. We do tillage, planting, bush mowing, little loader work, black blading, snow removal, etc. All that being said there are a few machines in the area for sale that have peaked our interest. CaseIH 485 MFWD, rops, loader, 4k hrs ($13k) / 93 Ford 3930 MFWD, rops, loader, 2 hyd., 3.8k hrs ($13k) / 99 Ford 3930 2wd, cab, no loader, 4 hyd., 1500 hrs ($10k) / caseih 585, 2wd, rops, 3k hours ($8k)
Leaning toward the 93 3930 but haven"t seen it yet. Thoughts? Thanks!

I vote for the 3930 Ford. I"ve got a 4630 that has been trouble free with 4000 hrs. The 485 case/IH would probably be OK too but I"m not familiar with them. I would also keep the best one of the 2 you have, but that"s just me.

For hills, loader work, that kind of money and not repairing used-abused equipment. With the factory incentives you are within sight of one of these M4WD units.

If you have replaced all those parts and take care of what you have it will last for many more yrs do you have a good shed to park them when not in use.

I would pick the Ford 3930 mfwd. I would stay away from the CIH 485 and CIH 585. They can be great tractors but if the hydraulics have been contaminated they can be junk. That series had problems getting water around the shifters and into the hydraulic oil. Then when it would set it would rust different components.
That Ford 3930 is a good little tractor. They where a little noisy but held together very well. Plus the mfwd and loader will be used a lot.
In that mid teen price range you could also look at the John Deere 5210 and 5310. I have a 5210 2wd and love it. It is the best starting tractor I have ever owned. I forgot to plug it in the first winter I had it. My car was stuck in the drive with the family in it. 5 degrees above and that 5210 started without any help or glow plugs. I don"t like doing that but I had to get the kids into the warm. I have found that 5210 get used a lot of hours because it is easy to get on and off of. It is short coupled and turns just like a narrow front. My great uncle rakes all of my hay. He has a choice of several tractors including a 4055 PS with a cab. He always takes that 5210. He says that it is so much easier to get on and he can see everything so much better.

Thanks for the comments. We have looked at new (Kubota, CIH, NH, JD) and there are some good deals to be had for sure but not ready for payments on that level. We lost our closest JD ag dealer so that leaves Kubota and CIH/NH close by (Zetor, Mahrinda, Montana are far away.)

Sold the Ford 4000 so we are down to an 8n and the 460 (needs brakes, a good carb/gas tank cleaning and the TA replaced.)

Will probably pursue the 3930 mfwd, not many for sale so might mean that folks are keeping them around. Loader is plumbed into the two rear remotes but it looks like there is a aux hyd kit avaialable for that machine.

Neighbor just listed an early JD 2030 2wd, no loader w/1 remote for 9k. Will probably pass on that one also as it's only slightly newer than the 460 and we really like the idea of mfwd on our hills.

Are you still looking for a 3930? I have one that I am willing to sell. It is a 1993 with only 570hrs. It was a floor sweeper at an indoor chrysler plant. It has never been outdoors. It is grey. I removed all the sweeper parts but the tractor is solid and ready to go. It needs the lift arms ($200). The hydraulics and PTO are 100%. $10k.
