mounted posthole digger value?

I am looking at a mounted style posthole digger that is for sale, name a price and we'll see type of deal. Some of the small pulleys are rusted enough to keep them from turning, but everything appears to be there and it was still mounted on the tractor until recently. What would something like this be worth? I think the name is a Chamberlain or another "C" name and it was made in Texas.

A post hole digger with pulleys?????? I guess you need to fill in the blanks a bit more. This sounds like a real odd duck.

OK it has two arms that extend out the front with cups that just rest under the rear axle. there is a crosspiece between these two arms that has holes to bolt it to the drawbar so the weight of the digger holds the cups up under the axle. There is a pto shaft that runs back to a gearbox like on any digger however to engage it you pull a rope and it somehow engages the auger and it slides down on a shaft. When it reaches the bottom or you pull on the rope again it stops and automatically lifts the auger up andthen starts it again to spin the dirt off of it. there are two pulleys on it with a cable that are for the depth/ lift cycle I think. Pretty much it has a frame around it but only the auger goes up and down

Greg, you have a Continental Belton post hole digger. My great uncles owned the company when your digger was made. They were made in Belton, TX. Mike

You are right continental was the name! glad you have a gooder memory. any idea of value? I've heard they don't work as well on hills as they are mounted to the tractor and can't pivot to level

Greg, A guy once gave me a digger similar to what you describe, if I read your post right. It was front mounted on an International H or M, and was very clumsy. I cut it apart and made it into a three point type digger. If it's like the one I had, it ain't worth much - unless you're running some kind of museum.

The Continental Belton augers are good diggers and years ago many farmers dedicated an old well worn tractor to such a digger.

Though not bad to install and remove somewhat more of a pain than a 3 point mounted one, hence fallen out of favor.

As I recall ours only needed a rope pull to start the digging of the hole and would auto trip at the set bottom depth to bring the auger back up.

Gregk,
About 5 years ago, I saw one sell at an auction for $325. I have one and I thought I’d buy another for parts so I stopped bidding at $100.

I have no idea what they are generally worth in term of dollars today but I believe they are the best design for a post hole digger that anyone ever came up with. You can easily dig at a set angle; great for setting end-posts.
