OT - '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C Oil

I"m about to replace the A/C accumulator/drier and some lines on my "99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Plan on purging the evaporator and condensor to clean it out well too.

Trying desperately to find out how much oil to put back in the system. Silly label under the hood gives me a Jeep part number but not capacity like the label on my Ford"s provide.

Best I can tell, she takes PAG 46 oil. But I don"t know how much to put in her. I"m not removing the compressor.

Thoughts? I don"t want to put in too much nor, of course, under fill it.

Thanks for any advice.

Why are you purging/flushing the system? Evaporaters are not cleaned internally. If you didn't have a mechanical failure, pull a vaccuum on the system for 30 minutes. Jeep manuals have oil quantities per component. Two oz. is a rule of thumb as stated.

Thanks for the quick response. Adding oil....can I add all the oil to, let's say, the condenser, close up the system and draw a vacuum and then charge? Or should I put some in the compressor, some in the condenser, etc?

Don't open the system anywhere else unless you have to, and don't put oil in the compressor unless you manually turn it over before start-up. Leave it sealed because the oil will travel throughout the system anyway. Put the oil in the accumulater. Don't uncap the accumulater until you are ready to put the lines in. Hope that helps.
