I need advice from you guys that live in eastern Tennessee. I will be traveling with the family down there in mid-August. Is there a better way to get there other then I-75, I will coming from Michigan. I have heard that the main road leading into Gatlinburg from I-75 is a nightmare. Is this true?

The wife wants to go there. I dont like the heat and it will likely be in the 90's while we are there, or hotter. So it might suck real bad.
But we havent been on vacation in almost 3 years.

Gatlinburg to me is worse than three nights in jail but just grin and bear it then head up in the mountains. You will forget the traffic, and it's always cooler up in the campgrounds, enjoy!

Wife and I got married in Pigeon Forge. Ober Gatlinburg is kind of like a German town with the style of buildings and stuff. And you could buy some german looking stuff. Real pricey though.

Have fun.

I don"t live that far from Gatlinburg, I can probably be there in less than two hours. My brother who lives beside me goes there at least once a month. He has a camper on lake Cherokee near there. He and his family seem to enjoy it. Myself,I have never been that hard up for a place to go on vacation. I was there one time 20 yrs. ago and I will never live to see it again. I hate the place.

Gun,, Just drove 400 mi today there in that area. Live about 200 mi west in Tenn. Trafic was not at all bad in that area today..You will like the area even more over to the west on over toward Nashville is a lot to see..E-mail me a phone number and I will give you a call and try and help.

I went to pigeon forge and gatlinburg last summer for "vacation" also known as he**. We stayed down there for a few nights and went to every shop, skylift a few times and every show. Comedy Barn was worth the money. The others i was just counting down the minutes to go home. Just smile and tell your wife you love her, things will go much smoother. Good luck!

I was in Gatlinburg in April. Took 75 south to Knoxville, then 40 over to the Gatlinburg exit which takes you through Piegon Forge. The traffic in Pigeon Forge is bad to say the least, especially if there is some kind of festival goin on. Took me 3 1/2 hours to go about 9 miles. They had a car show going on. Anyway, once in Gatlingburg at our condo all was fine. We went to the Great Smokey National Park most of our vacation. Also went to the Biltmore Mansion in North Carolina, real nice drive. Stayed out of Piegon Forge, it's just a tourist trap. Gatlinburg has all the stores you may want to visit and then some. I compared it to Mackinaw Island if you get my drift. Have fun !!
You can stay on 40 out of knoxville and go a little further East past Pigeon Forge and then exit to cut back to Gatlinburg.

We were there two years ago and it's just like all these guys say, people and cars every where. Anyway, if you have to go there look at your map below Lexington at Corbin. That road 25E is a nice road through some beautiful country. I think it's a little shorter and you don't have to go through Knoxville.

There's a fella that I work with that was just there a couple of weeks ago and loved it. He told me about this website called YourCabin.com where can rent from a smaller family cabin upwards to huge cabins where multiple families can rent. My understanding, you pick a cabin size, and they quote a price. I just went to the website to make sure I've got it right, and I did. The guy I work with loves it, been doing it for years.

Good Luck, and enjoy.
