kinda odd, when theres work to be done, kruser has a habit of wandering off. heres this weekends adventure. fer sure he said he'd stop by and help. had these trees go in the creek this spring. spend 2 days with chainsaws and the back hoe dragging em out and cutting em up. still got to split and haul the rest out. had to cut a road in with the back hoe thru the timber to access this spot. dang hot too!!! 90+ and humid!!!

this spring

maybe you are getting to old for that kind of work, but how many twenty somethings do you think would come do it for pay and then how much would they get done compared to you?

"Is a hedge apple tree good for firewood?"
Once dry just about as hot as you can get, but it pops a lot of sparks so not good for an open fire place.

Hedge wood is about all I heat with. Makes good fence post and the best of fire wood. It is plentful where I am at. Me and that hedge get pretty close to each other in the winter time.

You know, growing up as a kid, Mom always had us bring in a few of the good hedge apples and she'd put one in each room in a pie pan behind a sofa or whatever to run off or kill spiders. Did it work? I'm not sure, but every year she had us pick them and bring them home. And how did she know they were ready? Because when they got ripe, especially over ripe and mushy, we used to throw them at each other, and SPLAT on the back of the shirts, side of the head, and you know it. When we'd walk into the house with that gluey stuff all over us, she'd hand us a pail and send us back out to not come back home until we had enough for each room and some spares.

To be young again. I mean really, really young in body and not just in mind and spirit. Yeah, my mind and spirit are ok, my knees and belly are not. Neither is my thinning hair.

north central illinois. my timber has quite a bit of oak, black walnut, chestnut, and way too many honey locust and hawthorne. (the spikes on those trees are just plain wicked!!)

Can't blame [b:654c4848f0]kruser[/b:654c4848f0] for being "scarce" on this project.

It's way too hot and "snakey" for this kind of work.

If temps were in the lower 40s or upper 30s, even Nancy might have been willing to help you.

Looks like you did some good work and made a little headway on your creek project.

Won't be long before you can use the JD #5 mower in that area.

Enjoyed your photos; thanks for sharing them with us.

Whatta you mean? Never got the invite - less the wimmins stuck it under the pile of unpaid bills! Always kinda liked creek mud.

SOOOOOOOOOOO does this mean the Rock Chuckin Festival has been delayed? Still waiting on billonthefarm to confirm dates for the central Illinois rodeo and Texas Bar-B-Que.

Won't be much of a summer vacation without those 2 as wifey started a new job and kid goes back to school in bout 4 weeks.

OH MY, OH MY, OH MY
