Hi everyone hope yall having a good summer.One of my cows came up limping yesterday,put her in the barn to look at leg noticed that the back right hoof one was cracked back about 2 inches would this cause her to limp.do they have feeling in their hoofs.her leg looked ok.any suggestions would be much appreciated.
 
Sounds like foot rot to me..........
Give her a good strong shot a LA200,,,,Or the like of generic and let her out,,,,just dont baby her as walking or running will help pop the infection in the foot.............
Common problem during wet years.......
Start feeding salt with EDDY in it this year and for your next year start early,,,,,,,,,,
Wont work a 100% but in shure helps to prevent it
 
Can they get hoof rot while on pasture? I do have meds for hoof rot.Thanks very much.cbd
 
Could be foot rot, a bruise or a puncture wound. Had one of our nulkers limping and hock swelling. A trip to the vet. He cleand the bottom of the hoof and found a puncture wound. cleaned it out good took a syringe and a needle full of iodine and filled the hole. She did not appriciate that. Gave her a shot of LA 200. She got right over it. Had to withhold milk from tank for 96 hrs.

sounds like sand crack,much the same as hoof rot.good shot of penacilin long acting and she'l get over it.
 
Thats the only place mine get it..............It lays in the soil,,,,,,,,,,,,Some Pasteur's are worse for it than others.........
 
guy around here says since he started feeding those mineral lick tubs in the summer he has next to no more hoof rot.Says they eat lots of it but he no longer runs around with a syringe so well worth it to him.
 
Yep,,,I heer that to,,,,Gess i dont have tooo much problem if i feed the eddy salt but your right,,,if your stretched on pasture or got a bad foot problem its the way to go,,,,,,,can also get it with fly control,,,,,but does cost some $$$$$$$,,,,,,,,,,,but if you need it, its good.........Gess iv just had good luck with the cheep ol salt ,,,LOL
