Who is a Ford 460 engine expert??

93 F250 with 91000 miles. Started doing this slow rolling idle and die sometimes, then run ok for awhile. Restarts easy. Ck engine light on sometimes and sometimes not. Does hot or cold. Both fuel tanks too. Seems to run ok at speed. I'm using same fuel in other rigs and they are running fine. I added some injector cleaner, thats all so far. Any ideas? Thanks LB

Another possibility is the TPS (throttle position sensor). In my 93 E 350, the TPS had failed at about 60,000 mi. Ford still has them available.

When my 89 does that I pull the throttle body off the manifold and clean the round flapper in there, you can remove it with a couple of screws and clean it up good, gets gummed up ,clean with carb cleaner or such.Has worked for me last 15 yrs.Your problem sounds the same as the one I get every couple years or so.
Good Luck

Probably the IAC motor... but that's just a first guess based on what the Windsor's have done on me. That is the symptom. IIRC, they can be adjusted somewhat...

Everybody has given good suggestions so far. The easy one is pull the idle air control off the throttle body and fill it with carb cleaner. If there is any varnish/sludge haning up the plunger, the carb cleaner will eat it. Cleaning the throttle body is another good one. If you have a digital ohmmeter, you can test the throttle position sensor. Slowly sweep the throttle and watch the meter. It should always move up or down depending on which wires you're hooked to with no open circuits or huge changes in readings. If all else fails, then I'd try replacing the EGR valve.

They're perfect for boats. My boat isn't that big though. I require a much smaller anchor.
