Guys buying slightly used (2008 etc low miles) dealer is at $15000 how much wiggle room? any tips? #2 trade in in older junk any tips there.

What's the make and model?
How is the car equipped?
What is the car's history?
How many miles?
Is the car pristine, or does it look well used?
How does the dealer have it priced compared to the bluebook?
What area of the country are you in?
How is your local economy?

There are so many variables involved, it's impossible to give any advice from this distance. If it's a highly popular model, the dealer may have it priced above bluebook. If it's not a popular model, or a mundane model, the dealer may have already put a lowball price on it to get it off the lot.

No way would I try to give advice from here.

On my experience if you add trade in you will end up paying more for the vehicle than if you deal cash and sell your junker. The best deal I ever got was on a van that had bean on the lot for almost a year and they wanted to get rid of it.I found the original owner and this van has been a great buy.If possible check out all other places for that year and make to see what they are selling for.If it is low miles and they all have low miles I always wonder why?is the vehicle always being fixed and why did the person get rid of it?I have never been scared of a high miler because it obviously was working good enough to be driven.

You have to be prepared to walk away if they don't want to accept what you think is a reasonable offer. There's no shortage of good used cars available. Lots of incentives on new cars so that should also make for better deals on used. Dave

Go to KBB dot com and fill in the info for the make/model and condition and it will give you the value. At least you'll have a figure to work from. ohfred

I often look at KBB (kelly blue book) AND Edmunds. Edmunds sometimes seems more realistic. Also, you can look on e bay and focus the search for that car to your area. Although you can't see those cars it can give you a fair indication of what they're going for. As always.... buyer beware.
