1981 Allis 6080, when throttled up and going downhill, rpms go way down without moving the throttle. Have to stop and shut off engine and restart when fan stops moving, then it powers back up again. Any ideas???

Your pump is going bad, I can't remember what you call it but it is a plastic and is coming apart and pluging the return line. You can take the ball out of the check valve on the return line and it will run for a while, but you really will have to take the pump off and get it repaired. Line the timing marks up behind the two little screws on the side, before you take it off. Don't worry about the shaft leave it on the tractor, just put new umbrella seals on it, when you put pump back on.You do have a new filter and are sure plenty of fuel is getting to the pump.

I would change all the fuel filters and check the fuel line connections, the fuel flow at the tank outlet, and see if problem is remidied. If not there could be a floating obstruction in the fuel tank. We have pulled peices of plastic and rags and broken fuel cap gaskets out of fuel tanks. It could also be a problem with the throttle linkage that you should check for. You could also have water in the tank that flows to the outlet when going down hill, but restarting and running OK is a ??
Just a side note. My current boss ownes a 35HP Kubota. It would die down badly under load. Problem solved; Some one ??? put gasoline in the fuel tank.

Vic is right about the plastic check valve if It is aRosaMaster pump. I wasn't sure wheather you have a Rosa or CAV pump. Perhaps Elm or others will offer better info on this plastic check valve. You shouldn't have to remove the pump to replace the check valve.

Yes it probably is the return fitting getting plugged. It was several years ago my 1979 F2 Gleaner (with that same engine) started dieing on me. I was dumbfounded because I knew it was getting fuel.
