I have hauled a tractor (1930,s) to shows for 18 years. This year in East Central In. Went to register, they said I had pay $10. just to put tractor in a row. I am not a vendor. So why the fee??????????
She said all shows now charge. (BS)

Wouldn't see me haul a tractor to a show you had to pay to show it.

They should be paying you to bring it.

Without the tractors they have no show.

After pulling trailer over 300 miles, room reservations ect. I had to compromise my intergity, & thier website made no mention of membership fee. And to top it off the lady's husband is President of tractor club.

F blikkin lawers, Insurance corps. Sue is the buzz word now. Some parent could put a kid on the seat of your tractor for a photo opt. and sue you because he/she fell off and got hurt. Sadd but, that's todays world. I'm thankfull that my time here is closing. If I was 20, with my experiences, I would be really be mad at the way things have become, because I would not be able to enjoy people and life. Most of the current generation has no grass roots family background to draw experience from, and no sence of responsibility for their own well being. Welcome to the world of abundant idiots.

Our 2 local clubs do not charge fees or admission.instead,we place a few "donation"buckets at a few locations around the shows. We usually get several hundred dollars to help pay for show expences.Any extra(usually not much)gets rolled over to pay for next year.Nobody is ever charged to participate. Our members pay $35 annual dues, wich pays for a lot of activities(a good deal as far as I am concerned)

Could you PLEASE tell us what show did this to you??? That would save lots of other people the frustration you suffered and will help lead to a reversal of this unrealistic policy.

I drove 100 miles to a show last year and they wanted to charge me to show, they let me on the grounds so i could turn around and go home

I haul to three shows in Minnesota, none of them charge. They give one or two free admission buttons for bringing a tractor.

One of them does require proof of insurance.

the one show i attend does charge $6 for an exhibitor pass but they have a worker/exhibitor meal usually pork loin or similar and much better than a $6 meal in a bag. The problem they had years ago is that all the cheap a$$es became pretend exhibitors and their gate admission dropped substantially. This is a large show with lots of buildings and alot of upkeep so if my $6 helps out I don't have a problem with it. How many other ways could a person blow $6 and get nothing in return like a pack of smokes!

Our show asks for a donation of $3 per exhibitor, no mater how many units. That covers about a third of the insurance cost to the club for each exhibitor. Note that I said ask, it is not mandatory. The exhibitor tag gives them admission to the show grounds each day, which normally is $4. Still pretty cheap entertainment.

I don't agree with charging an exhibitor to show a piece of equipment. It doesn't make any sense. You spend plenty of money on tires, fuel, food and time to come. You are an important part of the show.

Not having insurance = unacceptable. By not having insurance you risk the possibility of there being an accident and not having a leg to stand on.

The club I am a member of has a couple options. Show an EDGETA membership card.
Pay just the insurance portion of our membership.

I think they do that to cover the cost of those who pull in with their one junk peice to keep from paying admission to go to a show. At one of our shows, its been thrown up to charge to exibit, but it never passes. Ive watched a few guys pull in with one old engine in theback of the truck and say its their exibit, only ot leave a couple of hours later. Another show I use to work at had 70 to 90 tractors, antique cars, etc. each year for 25 or 30 years, all of the admission went to local charities. Last year they announce they were going to charge exibitors 25 bucks. 2 tractors, and one car showed up.

I"m out east(PA) and I have yet to find a show with the nerve to charge an exibitor admission. The day they try to charge me will be the day I go home. I will pay optional membership fees at some shows and they are usally $5.00 or less. If I spend my time and fuel hauling a tractor, I"m not paying to get in. I can understand a fee if you are only bringing one little garden tractor to haul yor lazy butt around, but anything else should qualify. Funny thing is that one of the largest and nicest shows around here is 100% free, no admission or membership fees to anyone. I think the only fees are for flea market and outside food vendors. That just proves that with the proper leadership fees are not necessary.

Just to make a comparison, the Carlisle car shows are about an hour from us and their fees are far worse. About five years ago we decided to take two trucks to their truck show, at the time the fees for a single non judged admission was $45.00, and if you did want to be judged the price doubled to $90.00. The insult was when they took off a whole $5.00, because we brought two trucks. Needless to say, we will never take another vehicle to Carlisle again. The $15.00 spectator admission is bad enough.

I exhibit at 5-6 shows each year. Most don't have any charge at all and are glad you are there. One show does require you to be a member, I'm sure their insurance is set up that way. It's only $10 and the newsletter they put out is well worth that. No problem from me. Another show that I exhibited at ONCE required you to buy a pass to a county park where it was held--$15, no way I'd ev er use it again or get any benefit out of it. Never went back, but you are lind of trapped once you have taken the time to go, spent for gas or a room, meals, etc. Just some thoughts.

If I wanted to see the show I would just have paid the entrance fee to get in BUT the tractor would have stayed on the trailer in the parking lot. Local show no fee for exibitors, 2 people included and do not have to be a member, insurance company says the requirement some shows have to be a member is a bunch of bunk. Anouther I belong to you do not have to register unless you want and no fees for exibitor or visitor, just for venders and this show is put on by the local club in conjunchton with the Lions club and this show is what pays the bills for the Lions club to own and operate the city park and that is where it is held. On Sat there is a parade through town of between 1 and 2 hours long and there are people lining the street at places 4 & 5 people deep to watch the parade.

It costs a bunch of money to put on a show. Insurance is a biggie since the 911 attack. In the insurance industry's eyes, any large gathering is a target for terrorists who don't like us, so premiums have double and trippled. Fuel has gone up, electricity has gone up, advertising is very expensive, entertainers who come in to put on a show on the stage aren't cheap, spot-a-pot rental, mowing the acres of show grounds racks up a big bill, and if the show sells food, the cost of stocking the pantry is huge, then the food preparation and vending facilities have to pass inspection. Then there's the cost of making signs, renting golf carts, tents, arranging traffic control, and on-and-on.

All of this is paid for from income made in two-five days, depending on the size of the show. Like another poster said, how many exhibitors bring in some old junk tractor just to get in free? Or a garden tractor that they use every day at home, hauled in on a golf cart trailer pulled by an S-10, exhibited at the show and run through the parade just to get in free!

I am not promoting that exhibitors should pay a fee. We all know how expensive it is to haul a tractor or two or three to a show. Having been on the board of directors of a threshing show for a little ofover twenty years has opoened my eyes a bit. Jim

The show in town you don"t have to pay if you"re a member and it only costs $10 to be one. For $10 you get a monthly newsletter, invitations to a free dinner, Christmas party and dinner, ice cream socials, pins, etc., etc. Well worth the $10. Things like show grounds rentals, insurance, etc. aren"t free.

Central Wisconsin Steam and gas engine show in Edgar Wi not only does not charge, they give the exibitor two free passes, and tickets for two to the exibitor appreciation dinner, open bar, big meal and door prizes. More perks for members
