As dry as it's been here in Va (up until this week), the only things growing for me are squash, sunflowers and children. Here's some sunflowers, with a 7 year old child hidden in there somewhere....

rained and rained last night...they say it's too late for the corn but might save the area's soybeans

I wiush I had your success. I planted sunflowers and between the deer and the turkeys, I don't have many. I may disk them under and plant buckwheat or millet.

Deer were a killer for my sunflowers also, this year. First time, too. I planted a couple of acres at staggered dates for beauty, bees and birds and dove season. After replanting, I lost 80% of all heads before they had a chance to bloom.

I plan to lose 80% of all area deer this fall.

We've always had good luck growing sunflowers. The seeds spread like crazy, the next year they are always popping up in different places
