mowing top half of pasture

I saw a sidewinder pull type, bushhog, on tractorhouse today, and with a remote cylinder, to raise it up . I am wondering if this type of unit would work, to top the weed heads, off of my new pasture, and still leave some graze for my cows? Any one ever try it? what other choices are possible?

Do you have other pasture you can rotate the cattle to in order to mow off one section down to about six inches in height? Then when this section comes back a bit, move the cattle back on and mow another section. If not, can you subdivide the section they are on?

You do need to mow or the cattle eat the grass and let the weeds go to seed making more weeds and limiting any competition from the grass. Keeping the pasture mowed at least allows the grass a chance to compete. All this may depend on where you are located. There is much information out there on rotational grazing. Good luck.

I have always mowed my pastures. A rotary cutter like that side winder should do fine. Just set it up so you are not mowing too short. You just want to get the seed heads and weeds.
