Long Tractors.

How many of you guys own a Long tractor. Manufactured in Europe. A friend of mine owns a large older model. Uses a step ladder to get on it. Guy down the road has one parked under his shed. Been there a couple of years. I've heard good and bad. You can get parts. You can't get parts. etc. Is the Farmtrac a Long? It seems the Co has evolved through a number of plants and countries. Are they now being built in Japan? Totally confusing trying to trace them on the internet.

Dad sold many of these in Owensboro Ky - Southern Ind. area. He always said they had good
horsepower for the money invested. I still have one with front loader. No problem with mine.

This isn't the whole story, but maybe it will explain a little. The smaller models like the 360, 445,460, 560 and 610 were made by the Uzini Tractor Works in Romania under license from Fiat. The larger models like the 900 and 910 up through the 1310 were built by Zetor in Czhechoslovakia. I'm not sure which current country the factory is in since the "Velvet Revolution". Long continued to market the Uzini tractors as Landtrac until Long went out of business. The Farmtrac line was based on Ford design and built by the Escort company in India.

I should add that a friend had a 1972 Leyland 384 that had Long badges on it. The Long R-9500 was a Landini from Italy with a Perkins 354 engine. Massey Ferguson owned Landini at the time.

Attempting to research Long is a little like Alice In Wonderland...some posts??/articles?? refer to Ursus tractors built in Poland, and to Zetors from Poland, altho those could be one and the same, as well as Long selling BMCs and Nuffields, and some of the Landtracs were reportedly from Korea...
Not to forget, of course, the original US built model A 1948-49??, before they began importing.
Globalism, anyone??
Parts and reliability, I assume, would depend on the specific model

I have one that is rated at 51 hp I've had for 14 years. It has about 2000 hrs on it and I recently had to replace the water pump which is the only mechanical problem I've had in the 14 years. Its been horribly abused, clunky, hyd. not so good but easy to drive and will deliver more hp per gallon of fuel than any of the 5 newer tractors I have.

I have a Long 900 that is a Zetor 8011 its a very good solid tractor. As parts go you can get them from a Zetor dealer or you can get parts through A&I products. I must say its the cheapest running diesel I have ever run! This is the only 1 that I know of in my area. Hear is a pic of mine hope you like it. Bandit
