I thought when you had one that the family jewels got company. Prolly several years now I get a little tingling at the lower left of my stomach just in frt of the hip bone. Was real noticeable today and when poking around, feel a little lump that when I push on, I feel not really pain, just a feeling kind of all over my lower stomach. Afraid it's a hernia. Got my big service at the doctor on Thursday and will check it out. Don't mind the surgery, but it's being layed up that bothers me.

Shouldn't the Hernia be for a woman. With a guy it should be a Hisia.

I know, it's not funny to you. They do, or can go away without surgery, but I think it's rare.

Doc can tell you.

Yes that is it.
The procedure is orthoscopic (usually) requiring a small slit.
I have a mesh (about 75mm in diameter) controlling
a similar hernia.
Recovery (walking about) was the day after the surgery. Not a big deal. Jim

That's what it is, alright. Had mine fixed a few years ago. Some plastic mesh, and 12 staples later, and 6 weeks to avoid heavy lifting and all was well. Got me outta doing some chores anyway.

There is a plant called "CUMPFREE" (not sure spelled corect)that if you make a past with olive oil out of it shrinkes those hernias away takes about 1-2 months but no knife or down time.

Don't let Gene fool you--they do not go away. About 4 years ago I found I didn't know I had just on my right side down low, inside were all the way down to my crotch and I couldn't feel it. My belly button turned inside out (inney to outee) so I went to the Doc and he starts poking along side the jewels like they did when I was a kid and it was tender on the right side. Well you have says he I'll just fix em both. 6 weeks of being careful and I "can go back to normal work". First thing I do, nothinn heavy now, and I get the "nose-cone" sticking out of my belly just above the belly button. YUP another one. This time I was really careful and while I have no more hernias I do not yet have the muscle tone fully back.

I had one about 8 years ago. Higher up than what you suggested. I think it's like a tear in the abdominal muscules so your intestine pokes thru the tear. For me once in a while I could feel my gut move there, it was a tickling weird sensation that almost made me jump. The surgery with the mesh insert and recovery were no big deal, thank God for modern medicine, only have a hairline scar as evidence.

Left as in just below the ribs or lower then that?? If below the ribs but up higher then the hip/pelvis bone could be a hiatil hernia which will also cause acid reflex problems but for the most part can not be fixed. I know I have only had one since 1975 or so

Mine was an ingunial. (spelling) stomach lining gets into the family jewells. Hurts every time you hit a bump. That was in 1966. Supposed to take a month to heal. after about three weeks the family dog jumped up on the bed and stuck a paw on the incision, with his full weight. Set me back another month.

Got my inguinal hernia fixed about 14 yrs ago. Plastic mesh inserted in crotch with incision. No real issues except downtime. Weird thing though, the scar was sensitive for several years. They said it just is, cuz you cut through nerve endings. The scar was also situated exactly where the wife presses on it "wink-wink"

I had a hiatil(sp) hernia in 1973 Doc put a mesh in that the muscle grow through and it has give me no trouble. Could not do any work till it as healed up.

Just had one done a few weeks ago. Modern way - outpatient orthoscopic surgery. Go in, get it done. Doesn't take long (minutes in surgery). Plastic mesh & staples. Three very small holes in your belly. Wake up, go home, and sit or lay around. A few aches & pains for a while and possibly some discoloration at a place you wouldn't expect. Up and around as you feel like it, but no lifting. Can't drive for a week either. They furnished color hi-res pictures as a bonus? Ever seen your own insides?

Hernia?
Just another ailment you get from hanging around women.
Like Hurricanes are a lot like an angry wife. Even though they call them by men's names now too.

Oh yes they do. I was actually in the waiting room for surgery. But my red blood count was out of whack, so they said we would have to wait.

That was 20 years ago.

but there is a rest of the story. I had recently gone through kidney transplantation. They said my muscle tone and body in general was run down. With the transplant, the muscle healed itslef or strengthened, over time.

Hasn't bothered me since.

I guess I could have the Universtiy of Missouri pull my records and I could post them, but I would hope you would take my word.

Had surgery in Oct. last year, had some pain when it first happened then just it just felt like muscle soreness. Went to doctor and was told it was a inguinal hernia and when I went to the surgeon he said I had a umbilical hernia also. The cut in the belly button was the worse pain after surgery. Off work for 6 weeks and told not to lift over 10 pounds for 4 weeks. I pushed myself a little too much and paid for it with some complications. Everyone I talked to said you would feel it for a long time, it was 6 months before I felt close to normal. Don't get alarmed, just seems like I felt tight or something stretch in that area when lifting afterwards. Doc said sometimes a nerve gets in the mesh. Feel pretty good now. I could drive the next day and walk as much as I wanted.

(quoted from post at 15:45:36 07/13/10) Get it checked out!!!
Tomorrow.......... Bad timing, wife just had knee surgery. Can't have both of us laid up. We'll see what the expert says.

Thanks for the tips.
